I'm trying to copy a DVD which contains images and documents but my writer keeps on failing. I've even tried to copy the contents of the DVD to my desktop and then onto a DVD but everytime it fails.

I'm copying to a DVD-R and before i write i get asked whether i wish to write with multi-session or not. I've tried both options.

These are 2 of the windows i get upon failing:

Any ideas?

Decent discs or cheapo tat? A focus error suggests something on the lens - maybe simply blowing into the drive can help. If the drive door has been left open for a long period of time, its possible dust has got in.

I presume you're using 4x discs, and not 16x discs, etc? (although the discs are 'backwards compatible', your drive may not be able to understand the media codes on the 16x discs)

They're datawrite dvd's - not the best but certainly not the cheapest. And the writer is an MSI thing which again is OK.

The discs are x8 and my writer can write at x4.

Have you used the discs before, successfully? And have you managed to burn any of the current batch without problems?

Any time I've burnt data files to a DVD I've used the 'UDF' format (can't remember the exact name of the format as I'm at work) and I've never had a coaster yet.

May be worth a try...

Poor quality media is the problem.
It's always the problem.
