Mate of mine moved into a house few months back - whe he moved in the previous owner still had broadband provided and some how (not sure on details) my friend used this for about 4 weeks

Anyway - one day that connection just ended - possibly (although again not 100% sure) around the time the landline number to the address was changed

Mate subscribes to Wanadoo Broadband about 4 weeks ago - all gear arrives and Wanadoo tell him he is set up - however no matter what he tries no Broadband

He has tried the supplied USB modem and also a Netgear Router - The Router can detect NO settings on the auto wizard - the USB Modem just fails - it really is as if there is no broadband signal there

BT have checked line - they say its fine - an engineer came out today - mumbled something about a "possible conflict" and satted a more advanced engineer would be out Wednesday

Has anyone any ideas what problem is - I could only guess that there is some kind of conflict on the line caused by confusion over ISPS and the number change

It could be that the line still technically has the old broadband, to chance provider you need a ‘migration authority code’ or MAC so it could be that the last people didn't bother and therefore it is still locked to the old supplier.

Not quite sure how to find out, if you know the old supplier you could phone them up, otherwise it will probably have to be OFCOM who I think can blank the line.
