The new series started tonight on RTE1. Good but not great. Dr Lewis is now the only doc left from the first series. I really hope Dr. Ray is picked off by a psychotic patient soon though.

Did they really think they could change the actor who played Sam's kid and we wouldn't NOTICE? it's quite annoying- they don't even LOOK alike!
After Dr. Lewis leaves, will there be anybody there over 30? Or even fully qualified? They need experience *stat*
sorry. couldn't help myself.
Edit: fixed extremely embarrassing mistake.

might be an idea to put a spoilers mention in the thread title as I'm a HUGE ER fan and don't any more surprises :)
C4/E4 starts in the new yearSOunds good to me
I used to love Casualty and watched it every week, then I caught an episode of ER and was hooked. I cant even look at Casualty now its so poor, im a huge ER fan, being watchnig all the re-runs 12.30 on E4 last few weeks and rented out earlier episodes to watch too.
Spoilers now added to the thread title, I didn't know Lewis was leaving either :(

Dr Weaver now the longest remaining cast member along with a couple of the nurses and desk staff star Jerry.
Think Weaver arrived S2.

Virtually everyone is over 30 though aren't they? Weaver, Kovac, Pratt, Abby, Neela :?:

Haleh is the only nurse thats been there since the start. Chuny only arrived near the end of the first series and became a regular in S2.

Not for long.
They didn't even write her out properly, just giving gave her a sudden, off-screen departure. Very off-hand for such an established character.

Who may not be in the programme any longer. She was sacked in the last episode I saw, but I can't tell if that was the actress leaving ER, or if it was just a temporary thing, part of the new nurse manager storyline.

Nope - she soon comes back - in a rather dramatic "incident" - problem was said "incident" could have had so much more done with it and ended up being bit of a waste - seen up to the episode entitled I DO - nothing really stands out - all eps rather dull and boring - no really interesting characters and stories starig to feel rather old - and this is from a die hard ER fan

I agree - me thinks that its coming to an end slowly.
I know Carter was written out at the end of the last series, is that a permanent thing or are thier signs he could be back?
Steve Jackson

He has left, although I do recall reading something about him being back temporarily for four episodes at some point.
Didn't he agree to do 4 episodes in each of the next 2 seasons and the final ever episode whenever that may be?

Could not agree more Sam should have said that's not my kid when she eventually found him. He's an imposter :)
Well, she didn't notice when her ex-husband magically changed from Cole Hauser to some nobody bit-player, so I'm thinking she's got early stage Alzheimer's or something.
:)
oh, & was anybody else hoping the annoying little brat would die? or was it just me? :D
I thought it was poor and I love ER, no strong characters at all now though and nobody with screen presence.
Im watching the old ER's on E4 at night and boy is it good.
Theres just no interesting characters left at all.
I wasn't that impressed myself. I have seen every episode of ER from day one and althought it has been going downhill rapidly since Anthony Edwards left it is now just a bit bla.
I mean what is the story with the Ginger bloke (can't even remember his name)? His character doesn't add anything yet they promoted him to chief resident? Also all the new people they have brought in have not added anything to the stories.
And they are going to mess Luca's character about again.
Also is the girl who plays Neela pregnant?

I still enjoyed this somewhat, even though it felt very un-ER-like, mostly due to the focus on the Luca/Sam storyline. It was enough to keep me gripped, even if I wanted to strangle that stupid kid, and the acting is still top notch for a TV drama.
Don't understand the point of the Morris character at all. I'm not sure we've ever seen him do a medical procedure, he just goes and hides constantly. Prat.
Am I the only one who thinks Sam is unbelievably cruel to Luca? He totally opened up to her at last and still she throws him aside. What a biatch.
i'm so glad ER is back... i've missed it. i've also watched it religiously since it started - hopefully despite most of the current characters not being particularly well developed, perhaps with the exception of abby and luka, things will pick up again. whilst it's still excellent drama, it's not as excellent as it used to be.
i heard that luka and sam split - pretty obvious after episode one, but luka and abby will be getting back together again in this series :) i like them as a couple

yeah and wait til you hear what she tells him about 6 eps is
Does anyone know why they replaced the actor who played Sam? Off to do a Disney movie of the week, or did he want two trailers this season?
I'm guessing he probably grew a couple of feet...

Just watched episode 13 and WOW
seems there is someone out there who remembers what makes ER so special
cant help but feel though they missed a trick
an episode of that emotional quality - spread over maybe 2 hours - using extended flashbacks to show actors long left (Clooney should do it to remember what made him) as a way to end the show for good - this episode first in ages that had any imapct and its time to go out on a high
Agreed. Best episode of this season so far. James Woods was superb. For once, the flashbacks enhanced the episode.

The last episode to air in the UK, "Wake Up", was pretty damn good I thought. Nothing much happened I guess, but the dialogue and character interaction was great to watch, and the new attending was brilliant.

The new ep on Irish tv last night was pretty great as well. I thought the wholeplane crash was a bit ott but it was handled well. Very emotional scene near the end as well. Plus and old(ish) face makes a reappearance.

The last episode shown on E4 (on Channel 4 tonight, I believe) was VERY good. Had me and my family speechless throughout most of the second half. It was the one concerning the religious girl who gets pregnant.

The ep with James Woods was on RTE last night. Im sure its been said millions of times before but the man is an acting god. Wow.

Seconded, and if I recall the episode correctly he isn't a bad stuntman either.

These past few episodes have been stunning quality, certainly the show hasn't lost it's edge in my opinion.

This season has really upped the quality from last season. The Africa eps have been excellent.

Agreed, I've got the final two episodes of this season to watch this weekend. The Africa episodes have been excellent as usual.
WOW! .... After the suprisingly good Africa episodes, the last two have been even better. Just watched the finale and i'm still numb. Now that's what you call a Cliffhanger!!!
Definitely not been the best of seasons, with Grey's Anatomy being much more consistently entertaining, but when ER is at its best, nothing comes close.

Agreed - stunnning ending and a huge cliffhanger. I still think, considering it's been on for 12 years, ER is easily still one of the top US shows, which is a pretty incredible achievement.
Coincedentally, both ER & Grey's Anatomy finished with Snow Patrol songs over the final few minutes of their season finales .... Spooky!! ... Definitely a sign that they have become the new "Coldplay". :D
Didn't really enjoy the Africa episodes to be honest, found them a bit plodding and worthy for my tastes.
I'd have been more interested in an angle on Iraq myself.
This season has been okay, great final episode and although I'm certain they'll be okay it was a bit tense at the halfway stage.
Another surprise for me is how this show can introduce characters that you dislike intensely and yet after a while you find yourself liking them. They tend to avoid the pitfalls of making everyone black and white.
There's a whole load of these Benton, Romano (the show has been a lot weaker since his departure) and now Morris, assuming he does leave.
He is top comedy and replaces Romano for the laugh out loud comedy moments.
Brilliant show, me and wife have just caught up after watching seasons 6 to 12 back to back since February
