Got this yesterday :) but was a bit confused when I watched the first episode (was a bit drunk too :D)

I had a symbol appear about six or seven times, almost looks like steam coming out of a cup of coffee, which I couldn't seem to get rid of. I thought it might be a pop-up thing like the white rabbit feature on The Matrix, but when I hit enter nothing happened.

Does anyone know what it is and how to turn it off?

Cheers

well i think the symbol is offering to show you script notes, i assume you press enter to view them, but it might be the Angle button or something else even. it should be off by default, but maybe not with your player.. if you go to Episode options before you play it, you can switch it off there.
hope that helps

i just got done watching all the 7 series 1 episodes and i love it :D can't wait for the 2nd series! how many series are there? there's about 30 episodes right? any news on when the 2nd series comes out? i might have to get the VHS's off ebay if it's too far off :P

I thought it might be the script notes but when I turned that off in the main menu the symbol still appeared - as you say, must be my player - I have a Samsung 709

I think there are just two series as the second is a full season of about 24 episodes, but I could well be wrong as it's ten years since I've seen it. I don't know a release date but would hope it's next summer at latest :)

Thanks anyway

Watch the repeats on Ch5 instead. The tapes are going for ridiculous prices on ebay and the picture quality is awful.

Where can one get the pilot episode(s)? Isn't it a bit pointless having episodes 1-7 without the pilot?

Good job I've got the pilot then :D

It's available from Hong Kong on a region 0 disc for the grand sum of £10.05 inclusive :) Got mine from www.hivizone.com

Not sure. I'd guess at 6 or 7.

Well, Twin Peaks! In my opinion, the most diverse, intriguing and beguiling series ever broadcasted. Way ahead of it's time and, as such, most of the TV viewing public couldn't handle it. Such great characters also. It's a travesty that, for it's first re-run since initial bradcast on terrestrial TV, it's being shown so late and not in a prime-time slot (wishful thinking, I know).

Anyway, there was the pilot, seven episodes in season one, followed by a second (and final) season containing twenty-two episodes.

My copy of the season one DVDs is on it's way - can't wait!!

Checkout www.dugpa.com for the definitive Twin Peaks news site, rumours are that demand for the first boxset has outstripped supply hence the slipped release date, which is good news. That bodes well for the S2 release which is rumoured to be split into two sets with plenty of extras, including Richard Beymers fantastic on set stills.

Bad news on the Fire walk with me front though as David Lynch himself has expressed doubts that New Line will pay for the deleted scenes.

Email New Line (dvdteam@newline.com) to complain/support the deleted scenes. :)

Now lets just hope cdnow gets mine here for xmas.

I had a similar experience, except that instead of the "coffee cup" the image size briefly shrunk for about 5 seconds, then went back to full frame. Approx 6 times during episode 1.
Player = Samsung 511. Any ideas how to stop this happening. Tried switching off all script options to no avail.

Thanks

Anyone happen to know if there are plans to release the set in the UK, as I'd appreciate the increased picture resolution (though not the probably increased price)?

Theres been no talk of it, probably not viable over here. Also fwiw one of the guys from dvdfile was saying that the bitrate on these disks is even higher than the columbia superbit disks (only 2 episodes per disk albeit with dts tracks), which certainly explains the reported high picture quality, cant see PAL making that much difference mate. Get them! :D

Further to my previous post, I noticed that however I watch the first episode (not tried the others), whenever there is a script note, the screen briefly shrinks and then expands. This occurs whenever the coffee cup icon would normally be displayed when the script notes feature is enabled.
The shrinking happens even if the option to watch script notes is off. The only change that the script notes menu option makes is to display the cup icon or not: the screen still shrinks and expands when it displays the cup.
My player is a Samsung 511. Anyone else experienced this phenomenon and been able to disable it?
Thanks

While I don't have the TP discs (not yet anyway), I do have a Samsung 709. On my Sony Wega (KV28FX60), if the player has QUASI PAL set to OFF (i.e. it does 60->50Hz conversion on NTSC discs), it momentarily "squeezes" the screen during menu transitions. It works fine for QUASI PAL = ON, which is what I use anyway.

My advice is to try changing your quasi-PAL setting, assuming you have a 60Hz-compatible TV...

Indeed, there's every possibility that a PAL conversion would reduce the picture quality, if only because the higher resolution requires more disc space, and if the R1 discs are pushing the capacity to the limit... you work it out!

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but could anyone sort me out with good quality tapes of the second series? I've been watching the repeats on Channel 5 and I don't think I want to wait over twenty weeks to see the rest of the episodes. If anyone would be nice enough to do this for me I could organise some sort of tape trade or cover the cost of the blank tapes. Email me at grimmers@rapid.co.uk if you can help.

Nick dVI - Thanks, you're spot on. My Samsung player is set to QUASI=OFF to get it working with an "older" tv!. Guess I'll have to live with it. But I did notice I could fool the display into reverting back to full screen by a brief press of << followed by play. But since each segment only affects the picture for a couple of seconds, I guess I can live with it anyway.

This is a great DVD set and packaging by the way.

Thanks again.
