I've just received my ANGEL First Season boxset from Amazon, and I would like to know if anybody else is experiencing the same problems as me.

On my Marantz 4100, the animated intro in the first two discs sends me directly into the episodes themselves and, worst of all, with the commentary track on by default. I can't switch audio tracks on the fly, but I can't access to each episode's menu either to do it from there. And if I play any episode up to the end, I'm taken back again to the animated intro.

As I say, this happens in the first two discs only.

Can't switch on subtitles or switch audio tracks on the fly :( How Stupid!!

My brother has EXACTLY the same problem with his phillips player, although it works fine on his LG player.

So it appears to be an incompatiblity between your player and that disk :(

I've got exactly the same problem on a Phillips player - it means that the first episode can't be watched with the normal soundtrack at all.
So, this looks like the latest of a series of much-discussed problems with the Buffy and Angel releases.
My set is going back to the shop for a refund tomorrow.

As far as I know, Marantz DVD players use Philips mechanichs and/or optics, so I'm afraid there lies the problem, since no other players seem affected by this problem.

Maybe some firmware update could solve it?

Well, I've taken my discs back & got a refund.
I think this is probably the last Angel/Buffy set I'll be buying - there seems to have been a problem with packaging, cuts, picture quality, etc. on every one.
