View Full Version : Rob Schneider - desperately unfunny!
Having read some favourable reviews of him on here, I thought I would check out his DVD's. Now I'm a big fan of Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore and The Wedding Singer are two of my favourite comedies) and Schneider's films are made by his company. A fairly big audience (my brother, girlfr, 6 other friends. None of us laughed during either film. Totally abysmal. Avoid Deuce Bigalow and The Animal at all costs
People will probably agree with you about The Animal, but theres an awfull lot of Deuce Bigalow fans out there.
It could have been worse. He could of starred in Osmosis Jones, Space Jam or The Man Who Knew Too Little. :p
Bolch - What is your problem with Bill Murray. Is it because there is more talent in one of his little fingers than Rob Schneider?`

The only thing I can recall seeing him in is Judge Dredd. It was a depressing experience...
Question: How do u laugh at a Rob Schneider film?
Answer: By smoking some crack!
I liked him in his non comedy roles...
The French Connection
Jaws
Marathon Man
I thought Deuce Bigalow was very funny. I went to see it at the cinema not expecting to like it but was pleasantly suprised, maybe i'd think differenlty now tho! i was probably in a stupid mood.
i thought Deuce Bigalow was very funny too, i've always quite liked Rob Schneider and always found him to be pretty funny.
Though the fact that my mates and myself were half cut might have added to the experience :D
Roy Schneider = Funny Guy:D
Deuce Bigelow = Funny Film
Robby = Big kid at heart:D

How many times do you need to read it before it sinks in?
1) I don't have a problem with Bill Murray, I think he's a very, very funny man given the right material
2) IMHO he hasn't had the right material for at least 10 years (with the exception of Kingpin and Rushmore)
3) I found Ground Hog Day boring and tedius. Lots of people don't agree with that, thats fair enough. That is not a comment on Bill Murray, see point 2 for more info.
If you need me to repeat it in what would be now a forth different thread, just let me know :p
Back on Topic......
Rob Schneider seems to have found a successful formula with Adam Sandler that helps him churn out movies that a large audience find ammusing. The Animal had it's moments (they where all in the trailer), Deuce Bigalow is definitly his best film yet. He also played small (but likeable) parts in The Waterboy and Big Daddy.
Go on, watch a few more. "You can do it" :D

No, I wouldn't say "stupid" mood, it just sounds like you were in an fair-minded and appreciative one. Why should you question your own opinion on a film just because some others have dismissed it out of hand (without any specifiic reasoning).
NC- I could understand your argument if this type of comedy wasn't normally your thing, but you say you liked some of Adam Sandler's films so I don't see where you're coming from really. What is so different about Deuce Bigalow?, it's exactly the same type of comedy as all the other Robert Symonds productions (and just as funny IMO). Were you unduly influenced by the people watching it with you?.
If you don't laugh in the first fifteen minutes of a comedy it will die on its arse, regardless of how funny it may eventually become (same thing with stand-up acts). Are you sure you didn't feel awkward watching a "guilty pleasure" type of film with that crowd? (which may have included people that dislike the genre anyway) and maybe you felt extra pressure to be cynical and superior about it?. Either way, it is possible to completely ignore the humour in something if the situation allows. If you fell out with a mate (for example) and later on you could hear him cracking jokes nearby, you wouldn't even attempt to appreciate the humour, you'd just mutter something scornful under your breath (even if they were the best jokes ever delivered!).
Funny is subjective, but Deuce Bigalow is a great example of a well-crafted (intentionally low-brow), nicely performed modern comedy. A room-full of nay-sayers could easily kill the appeal though.
I just think the 'humour' is very lame when compared to Sandler.

He also had a small role in Demolition Man didn't he? Thats the only half decent film he appeared in. Then to reappear with Stallone as a 'comedy' sidekick in Judge Dredd - oh dear I hated him for that.
I can't undersatnd how anyone couldn't like Deuce Bigalow.
Everytime I hear the words "man-whore" or "he-bitch" I just completely crack up. :D
And "mangina" :)
sorry.
i have to go sit down now.
Rob Schneider's Films are pretty funny (Deuce Bigalow and The Animal). But i prefer comdeian's like Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy!
As for chris Rock he may be a good stand up comedian but when is he gonna get a proper comedy role in a film? I'ved never laughed once when he's said out in films yet (Osmosis Jones - blargh!!)
