Just popped in to my local Maplins store and they have these USB Voip phones for £24.99 BoGoF. Have tried it with:
Skype - works fully i.e. you can dial using the phone and access various Skype functions using a thumbpad type thing. (comes with a driver disc if you want to use Skype).
Voipcheap - you still have to use the PC keyboard to dial the number etc but works very well otherwise.
Apparantly also suitable for use with other VoIP platforms such as Net2Phone, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and MS Meeting
Also available online Maplin (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-582776-10297371) (search for A72FF)
(offer valid until 24/12/2005 )

Only thing I don't really like is the look of the phone (the size of a small mobile and white) build quality etc seems fine though.

Yes, I guess providing the build quality is there...
I was using Skype this morning and last night to my mum for the first time. I use a laptop and found I could hear myself her end too. rather distracting! Hopefully that will stop with use of a phone?
Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Thanks.

Never had that problem with the phone or a headset
Btw Voipcheap (http://www.voipcheap.co.uk/en/index.html) have added a load of countries including US and Australia which are now free :)

Ok. I was using though the small microphone hole on the keyboard and speakers on the side of the unit, so this may have set up a delay?
I agree that it doesn't look particularly pretty, but as long as it works, I don't care! Can someone confirm that al I need to do (hardware wise) is plug the phone into a switch or router? Or am I missing something? Thanks.
Doh! It says USB - answered my own question.

You plug the phone into a free USB port.
Download software from Skype.com

Cheers Nick_J007 - guess I'll have to look into a Vonage-like product if I want VoIP calls without using a PC.
