Nero 7 Premium Alternative?

I downloaded the 10 day trial of Nero 7.
I've been transcoding some WMV files using the Nero Vision part of the suite,
then burning them onto a dvd.
I don't really want to pay £50 for the full version, but other programs I've downloaded convert only to VCD not DVD (don't have the mpeg-2 decoder plug-in?).

Is there a cheaper alternative?

Winavi is very good, if your only doing 1 at a time tho, some reason its coded weirdly and it a bit strange, if your just ending 1 DVDs worth its perfect, fast and easy :) Good quality, but not the best

Yeah I agree, great for just one avi to a dvd though with no menus etc, fastest by far I've found.
