View Full Version : Holy Grail Re-issue
It appears (from the threads on DVDTalk anyway) that the 2 disc special edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail (R1) has been re-issued to at least correct the subtitle problem, if not the missing 'spoof' Swedish captions at the start of the film.
Are people in the UK sending theirs direct to Columbia, as everyone in the US seems to be doing, or are they returning them to whoever they bought it off in the UK (Play, *********, whoever)?
I must admit that I dont fancy sending it back to the distributor, but I have had no joy from my supplier as they can't guarrantee they have the re-issued version, and not the old version.
Well id like to send mine back to Columbia, hopefully your guaranteed a proper replacement. Any links to the returns thread you saw this on? WOuld like to know what their returns policy is for overseas people.

I'd be amazed if Columbia replaced discs for overseas customers - remember this is the company that implemented RCE precisely to stop non-US residents buying their US discs.
ah thats true :(
Oh well, hope ringos get a defenit supply of decent ones in then.

So if I buy it now I'll get the new re-issue version? I desperatly want the film, but not if I get the first problem disk version.

.
I have had my copy for around a couple of months (orded from A&B) & I was not aware of any problem. The Spoof Swedish Captions at the start of the film are definatly there.
Where there amy other problems with it?

I doubt Columbia(US) will send the re-issued disks to the UK as they only have the rights to distribute them within the US. :(

There's only one missing, the first one which is the pseudo-Swedish version of the film's title. All the same, it's mildly irritating that someone seems to have made an executive decision that we didn't need that one...

The subtitles kept popping up unbidden on certain players. It seemed to affect a great many Sony and Toshiba players and a handful of others, but had no impact on many other major brands (Pioneer, for instance).
On the topic of exchange for a reissue copy, surely the best (and most likely ONLY) solution for non-US customers would be to contact the US-based online vendor who supplied the set in the first place? Those who bought it from a non-US-based vendor might be caught in the grey area, I fear...

I can't reproduce the known bugs on my Pioneer. Naturally we'd like our discs to be futureproof as much as possible (e.g. what if I get a Sony in three years' time?), but so far I have no complaints. It really depends on your player, because many types and brands are apparently playing the offending disc without so much as a murmur.
At this stage though, if I hadn't already bought the thing by now I think I'd be waiting for the R2 PAL edition due in 2002, which we are supposed to believe will replicate all of the R1 extras (?).
