I've just bought a Panasonic 32PG30, the picture quality on all inputs is fantastic except Region 1.

When i play a region 1 disc I get lines which curve upwards and downwards on the left and right hand sides of the screen.
Although they aren't that bad they are obviously irritating.

My dvd player is a Pioneer NSDV55 which I have connected to the tv via a ixos s-vhs - Scart, as the player has no scart out and I hate having the flap on the front of the tv open. I have tried a video lead and s-vhs to s-vhs but still the same.

I will be trying a friends dvd player tomorrow, you never know, maybe it has to be scart to scart!

I wondered if anyone has had the same problem and how I can rectify it, even if I have to get new dvd player.

Cheers

Bubby.

You tried phoning Panasonic's technical helpline at all? If not, I'll see if I can dig their number out for ya as I've called them before and the guy I spoke to seemed quite helpful.

Unlikely to be anything to do with your cables, connections, or your source DVD player.

R1 DVDs have an NTSC/525/60 signal, whereas R2 ones are normally PAL/625/50. These two standards have very different line and frame rates. Even if you set your DVD player to "PAL" rather than eg "AUTO", you still get a 525/60 signal (except on a few machines from Samsung and LG).

Most likely to be a badly set up TV. I suspect that, although it may be marketed as NTSC compatible, when they set them up in the factory, they don't even look at an NTSC(525/60) display, only PAL (625/50).

It will need geometry adjustments making. If it's under warranty, get an engineer out to it.
