View Full Version : Problem installing Nero 7?
Hi,
I have downloaded the trial version of Nero 7 Premium Edition and everytime I try to install it, it pops up an error saying "It cannot find a .cab file...."
Anyone got any ideas?

Is the download valid? (it may be incomplete / corrupted) Are you running out of space on the C drive where your temp directory is? If the directory is full, try emptying it.
I have downloaded it of the Nero website it is the trial version. I have downloaded it twice now with the same problem.

I would forget it anyway as V7 is, IMO, not quite finished yet. Although there's been an update, there's still a few bugs to iron out. The main one being, unless it's just my machine, CD's skipping after being burnt. V7 also seems to be a bit of a system hog. With V6 I can surf the net and use various other applications while burning but with V7, my PC seems to slow down quite a bit.
Like I said, it could be my machine but would be interested to here from anyone else who has suffered the same problems.

Does it detail which .cab is missing? How far through the install do you get?
Typical install, or custom?
It tells me what cab is missing and I have tried typical and custom.

Any chance of letting me know which cab is missing then?
This is the error message I get:

Theres only one file in that .cab - that one .dll file.
While you've got that error open, in your temp directory, you should have a nero7.tmp directory. In that a cab directory. In that 345 cab files. Can you see the missing .cab file in there? Its a standard MS cab file, so if you double click it, Windows should be able to open it.

I can't find the .cab files on my computer.

Can you see the nero7.tmp directory? Are you sure you've 400+MB free space?
Just do a search for .cab files - they should be on your system somewhere.
You have to check while you've that error box up, as the install will delete the directory when it closes.

I have plenty of disk space and I have done a search for *.cab files and they dont come up. I can't see the nero7.tmp directory, I am searching for the cab files while the error message is displayed.
I am just doing it again now.

Well, its installed somewhere, as you're running the setup. I can see the screenshot.
Unless its a hidden directory (although its not hidden on Win98) and you're not searching for hidden directories?
What about Nero.msi - does that file exist?
When I double click on the install program, the destination folder for the cab files is shown, but I can't find it.
The image shows the extraction process:

Nero.msi file does not exist.

How far do you get? You can get into the temp directory? Is is empty? If you append 'nero7.tmp' in the address bar does it go into that folder?
You could try in a DOS prompt, as thats 'impervious' to hidden directories.
Out of interest, how large is the file you downloaded? I doubt its corrupt, as InstallShield usually checks for that kind of thing, but thought I'd ask...

Nero.msi file does not exist. Then thats just nuts!! I have no idea. You've checked the obvious...
Guess its 'old skool' tips like, 'have you run a disk check?' and 'have you checked the event log for disk errors?' ???

I just done a search with all my files unhidden and I have tried entering nero7.tmp into the browser and that does not bring up anything, the file size is 100MB.
I have just followed the directory structure in the DOS prompt from my second screenshot and I have found the directories and files.
I have also found the .cab files it is looking for, all the rest of the cab files are uppercase and this one is lowercase, could that make a difference?
The directory structure in Windows was hidden and now I have found it and when trying to open up the cab file it says it is corrupt.
Thanks for your help mate, I am going to reinstall Nero 6.

If its that one .cab you need, I can email it to you, or you can download it from me.
Try some other cabs though, to see if thats the only one ... unless you've had enough! ;)
I appreciate the help mate but I will leave it for now and try downloading it again when another update comes out from Nero.
I've had enough.

Thats what I thought. From other posts, I'd suggest sticking with v6 anyway...
Your right I've heard people are waiting for them to iron a few more kinks out of version 7 first.
