does this include free sky+ sub? or is it still £10 unless you take movies or sport
Good post M8.
Also, judging by the size of your text, do I need to scream these words down the phone at the salesperson? :D
If I'm moving to a new place and have already asked to cancel my sub (although it does run for another 20-odd days), I guess I can't be classed as a new customer can I? :D

Only if you use someone else's name. You could use your middle name, but they also check your bank so if you got a 2nd bank account, cannot see an issue. :D
P.s change you telephone number too
What's the minimum package, and the total every month you'd have to pay - maybe a price it'd cost for the whole year?
Hmm, that's tempting. I've been looking for an excuse to ditch NTL for a while now... Will have to give em a call and see what they can do :)

I got the mailing today with this offer on it.
Came in the form of 3 cards that you are to give to friends or family, and the offer is indeed a free sky+ box, and everything else mentioned above. There is no need for Multiroom either, and the £10 Sky+ sub. is waived if you take 2 or more premium channels in your viewing package.
Shame they aren't as forthcoming to existing, longstanding customers, and make us jump through hoops to a refurb box for £49!!
Sorry for that rant, dont want to derail the thread.
Cracking offer for a new subscriber...Anyone thinking of joining Sky, Sky+ really is worth it!
MJ
EDIT: By the way...the cards I got said "OFFER ENDS 15th DECEMBER 2005"

I dont see why you would need to use another name, after all how do sky know that your the same person as the one who cancelled?
Yep, sky confirmed to me the same thing on the phone - this looks like a really good offer.
Unfortunately NTL managed to persuade me to stay with them again... £15 off my TV price and 10mb broad band for £29.50 a month makes it a nobrainer to stay with NTL. Bugger.
so, is the sky+ box yours to keep, regardless of having a subscription?
can you do anything with it without a subscripton?
Whats the cheapest subscription you can take out without having to pay £10 a month for sky plus?
Fantastic!
I've been wanting Sky+ for ages but being a tight git didn't want to pay.
Just rang the number, told em a friend at work gave me the code phrase, and was quoted £34 per month for the basic 2 mix package and the movies package.
All that and the 1st 3 months are half price.
I believe this is the cheapest way of not having to pay the £10 per month Sky+ subscription.

fantastic deal. what installation date were you given?
edit: just called myself and got a date of 2nd Dec. which is what I wanted
The woman didnt know about the offer and had to double check it from her supervisor before i could get the free box.
After the three months, can you lower your package?
Would probably be a bit pointless. If you don't have movies or sports (i.e. at least one premium package) you have to pay £10 for the privilege of having a Sky+ box. You'd only save a few quid.
I've just got myself booked in to have my Sky+ installed in 6 days! Come of 25th November.
Of course it does make my current project of building a Linux based PVR on MythTV a bit pointless.....
Now what am I gonna do with that spare pc now???
And the best bit, when NTL take away my Set Top Box and replace it with a cable modem next week (I'm keeping the broandband service), I don't have to pay them the usual one months notice!

My dad used to have Sky but passed away 5 months ago and I now own the house. Do you think I would be eligible for this deal? Technically, I would be a new customer. Getting the new equipment would be handy as the exsisting kit is looking a bit old now. Thanks… :)
Mr Silly

I would think so Leon, as he was the customer. Yes you've inherited his house, but I'd say this is different. Obviously I can't say for sure, but why not find out by calling?

I reckon sky are trying to get rid of all their old sky+ boxes as a new one (sky+ 160) is coming out soon and gives 80 hours of recording space.
To get the present equipment for free is a really good deal...I wonder why sky treat their present customers so shabbily though, charging £49 is shocking when they are being given away.
Sky HD is just around the corner but i think it'll be priced out of most peoples reach, especially those without the TV's to support it.
There was rumours before about Sky cutting their losses and giving the Sky+ boxes away free and trying to recoup lost earning through subs.
Perhaps they're relying on word of mouth for this offer until they decide to roll out SKY HD (early Feb i last heard, may have changed) and then market the two in tandem appropriately.

yes you can do that. Dont forget to add a Sports or Movies mix on top otherwise you pay £10 extra per month for Sky+.
By the way the Daily Mirror 'free DVD player' offer apparently can't be combined with any other offer, so you wont get 3 month half price or a £49 or a free Sky+ box. You apparently pay full price for a Sky + box if you take up the Mirror offer :suspect:

Ah, so in fact they won't be paying £16 a month, it would be £30 a month to get sky+ with sky movies (or £26 for just sky+)
they don;t need sky+, they just want sky and pay £16 a month, what deal would be best for them?

They can already get a free box and installation if they don't need Sky+
It would be £18 per month if they just want the a mix of four out of the six packages (i.e. minus sky movies) or £35 per month with all the added movie channels. It's half price for the 1st three months and there is also a current deal if you order online where you get £10 off. If you or someone you know already have sky, you can also make use of the 'recommend a friend' option and get £50 in M&S vouchers, a free sky+ box or an upgrade to Sky+ 160. All the details are on the web-site.
Based on the current offer with a free sky+ box, that appears the better option though providing you want the movie package (on a cost basis).

the one with the free sky+ box would cost £10-£13 more a month wouldn't it? Shall speak to them to see if they think its worth the extra £10 for no tapes (they like my tivo).
I saw the £10 online credit option, not seen the £50 M&S vouchers one as i don;t get the mag anymore as i am on the £16 pack.
The basic options are:
Regular Sky: 4 mix packages (out of the six) - £18 (1/2 price for 3 months) with free installation and box. £10 back after 7 days and with the 'recommend a friend' option should you make use of this.
Regular Sky: 4 mix packages + all the movie channels - £35 (1/2 price for 3 months) again with a free box and installation. The rest is the same as above. Here's a link to the introduce a friend (http://czone.sky.com/customerzone/article/0,2129,1145438,00.html) page.
Sky+: 4 mix package. The offer as detailed in the first post i.e. free sky+ box and installation. £18/per month (1/2 price for 3 months) + £10 per month for sky+ (i.e. £28/month after 3 months, £19 before).
Sky+: 4 mix package + all the movie channels - free sky+ box and installation. £35/per month (1/2 price for 3 months i.e. £17.50).
The T&C's seem to preclude 'recommend a friend' and the £10 off on these deals.

cheers for that, looks like dad got wrong end of stick.
Best bet for them is for me to recommend them and split the £50 worth of M&S vouchers between us. I wouldn;t want sky+ as it would clash with tivo and/or cost me an extra £10 a month (or i'd get movies and pay £3 more)

perhaps my original statement was a little unfair...but my personal statistics 4/5 installers ive had problems with...some even bursting a water pipe in my house. If that is representative of the north east population of sky installers then they are cowboys :cuckoo: ...that said it may not be representative of the uk population so i take it back....that said mind...they i have NO praise for sky whatsoever...they are untrustworthy as a company and i have had my fair share of problems with them as have many others. So im sure as all can see from my point of view i have some valid reasons for the assertions that im proposing, its up to you if you agree or disagree..

they will record your request on the system if you ask them but like the previous post stated its not guarenteed..

NTL service has been bad for me in the past, there have been times when I would have happily paid to see them shut down, but they've always given me plenty of compensation for mistakes made and *touch wood* things are running ok at the moment, so I'm happy to stay with them as long as the prices are cheap enough ;)

All this talk about amstrad/pace boxes. I've had an amstrad box for over a year now and I've had no problems at all with it. The whole amstrad boxes are crap is just something a lot of people, just mouth off because they read it somewhere or their "mate" said so.
Pace boxes can be just as troublesome as Amstrad IMHO.
Sounds to me like repec has had some problems with sky and his box and is therefore entitled to his negative opinions of the whole set up.
As for me, I had a nice new Amstrad box installed, no problems. Moved house and again no problems. Sky couldn't have been more accommodating. Plus both of the people I've had install my kit were brilliant.
As another note, sky 160 has been out for ages now. With Sky HD boxes being available early 2006, it was obvious they were going to make sky+ free for christmas, you could see this by their pricing structure.

Off topic and I apologise.
Will sky use a ladder to put a sky dish high on a roof? - the lady wife won't let me get it if they put it above the front door. (I want it on the aerial pole at the top of the house)...
Cheers - KP
Just to echo xray and balance things out, I've had an Amstrad for 8 months now. The only problem I have with it is as a result of the new software update a month or so back making it slow down...

KP, they'll usually put it on the wall around the 2nd story height level, because this is the simplest way for them to have clear and direct line of site to the satellite - if you're looking for a free installation it also has to be below 30ft (9.1m). Otherwise you'll need to phone them and get the order put through as a 'special height' installation which will cost extra.

Special heights shouldn't cost you any extra. I had a special heights team around to install my dish and it didn't cost me a penny. A special heights team is basically your local independant installers and not a sky employee. Sky contract it out. They get and extra £47 on top of their normal fee for a special heights job, according to the contractors that did mine.

Worth a check with Sky just in case - I had someone who was charged extra for the installation so there may be variables. Anyway, it just means you need to do the order over the phone and not online which would be the case with this deal regardless.

I spoke to Sky when having the Sky+ box chucked in a couple of months ago. I live in a 3 storey house which has no way of attaching the dish to the side of the house.
As I had already paid for the pole, they said no extra charges were necessary. When I asked why I had been charged before, they said that they no longer charged for Special Heights (and they refunded my money from the original install)
Can I also add that I too have an Amstrad box and it's very reliable and I'm very happy with it. I also have had a crappy Pace box which locked up all the time, used to record when it felt like it (usually when you weren't actually that bothered) and pausing a programme would cause it to fall over in a heap.
Sky unveils new pricing plans etc:

What's the score with recommendations? A mate of mine phoned up when I put him on to this but didn't mention me, if he was to phone back would Sky still honour it or would they be having none of it?
what about if i were to cancel my subs [all sky movies/sports] and my wife take out a new sub at the same address?
we had the [sky] hardware already installed when we moved into the house and i assume the receptors on the dish are packing in as we lose reception very easily....

I've lost the phone numvber though but if you call their Customer SErvices Im sure they have it.

I'm not subscribed to Sky at the moment but I have my crappy existing equipment (which hardly ever has a signal) and the existing Sky account at my address is under my father's name (who doesn't live here anymore!). Last time I was with Sky I used his details but I paid with my account as they only ask for the surname on the account (I basically pretended I was him on the phone!).
I want to take up this offer same address, same phone but in my name. I could use a different back account if necessary. I'm assuming it shouldn't be a problem. If they make a big fuss I guess I could say my either that my equipment is faulty or that my father took all the equipment with him (though I don't fancy getting on the roof to take down my crappy dish!).
Again, I'm assuming it will work as my father and I are different people so if they moan about our previous subscription I'll simply say that it was my father not me who subscribed to Sky.

I dont see any reason why your plan shouldnt work. People move house all the time. The house Im moving to in a weeks time , the previous tenants had sky, and when I rang up for this offer they never asked a single question and I got it for free. Its totally legitimate and you wont be conning sky by doing this.

Hi all,
Does anyone know if the new customer offer still stands? If so, has anyone had the 'recommend a friend' free gift as well as the 'new customer offer'?

Just phoned up and booked an installation for Thursday. I said I got the code from a friend and the bloke didn't even bother questioning me about it. Also made a request to see if I could get a Pace box (everyone else seems to rave about them!) but the guy said that the installers may have multiple boxes depending on the time of day they arrive so I should try asking them.
Now I've got an existing dish and receiver which I want replaced. This should be better for the installers as no drilling will be required. Should I bother asking to replace the existing cable from dish to receiver (it is quite a long cable and I think it's very old)?
I'm just asking because I never used to get a strong signal on my existing equipment when everyone else I know does. I doubt its the cable but it would increase the installers work! I also don't want to pay extra for any extra long cables (this possible charge was read out by the Sky bloke as he stated the T&Cs).

The recommend a friend free gift offer says it cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, since the new customer thing is an offer you cant use the 2 together. HTH.

Sky have just gone and screwed me over. Installers came round today and fitted the new dish and Sky+ system. I hadn't received my viewing card so they left.
They called me 30 mins later saying they'd phoned Sky about my viewing card and apparently Sky had decided to cancel my installation and had asked the installer to go back and collect the equipment!
After an hour on the phone I finally got threough and the reason given was that a free installation cannot occur at the same house twice, even with two different people.
I told them that the existing installation was done under my father's name but he doesn't live here anymore and the existing equipment packed up. Sky say all I can do is ask for new equipment on my old subscription (eventhough it's under my father's name and I said I had no access to the account).

Idiots. I can understand why theyre trying to do this, but its a very poorly thought out plan on Sky's behalf.

Looks like I've been screwed over too.
Had the installation booked for last thurs. Got a phone call from the sub contractors on the morning to say theyd be there between 1 and 4.
Sat and waited
Phone call at 3.30 to say the installers van had broken down and the only day they could install it before christmas was today (sunday).
Waited all day today until an hour ago to get a phone call from the installer saying his van had broken down and someone would be in contact with me in the morning to re-arrange. Funny enough I went out for a walk and seen one of the sub-contractors van flying past me!!!!
2 days wages lost for nothing!
Somrthing fishy is going on me thinks.
Does anyone think itas worth while asking for compensation?
Ive already phoned the sky intall line and told them of its not in tomorrow then cancel it. Starting to get fed up with it!!!!

for those that HAVENT been screwed over (so far), please note that the 3 mnth half price offer means that you have to stay on that package for three months otherwise you lose your 'half price' offer.

Got mines in today finally. Phoned sky on Mon morn 9am and told them if it wasnt in by 12 on wednesday then the could shove their contract where the light dont shine (but mor politely!!!).
Installer turned up at 10am this morning. Was done by 10.30.
Left me job sheet by accident. on it it said - Job cancelled twice by sub contractors - job must be completed am Wednesday or contract is under threat. Customer will cancel if not completed by 12 on Wednesday.
Just shows to push them and really complain and you'll get it sorted!!!!
