Does anyone know of any disks with the above audio format?
Thanks

Rush Hour 2 for one
Also I am pretty sure Gladiator (R1) is DTS 6.1 ES encoded

Thanks Richard.
I have gladiator R2 and that has to be matrixed.I'll try Rush hour.

I think T2 UE is.

The problem with alot of these disks that are marked dts-es,is that they're actually 6.1 matrixed.
I'm not sure what new stuff is dts-es discrete.

R1
Beastmaster
Chicken Run
Gladiator - according to DTS, discrete not matrixed
Haunting
Maniac
Seven
T2 - matrixed

what is all this matrixed talk?

Matrixed is where the channel info is pulled out of other channels. Pro logic works like this in that only two channels left and right are actually sent. The centre channel info is either sent as part of the left and right signal and created by some cleaver maths ie matrixed in.

I think this is how it works any one who has a better explanation or site address please help

This how DPL gets four channels (left, right centre & surround) with only two tranmission channels

DTS and DD use a similar idea in getting a single rear channel. This is DTS 6.1 matrixed and DD ES (I think)

Discrete is just that, where each channel is a separate data stream. This is DTS 6.1 discrete and DD EX (may have the Ex & ES the wrong way round)

I have Gladiator R2 and it's matrixed,but I've been told R1 is discrete.
DTS say that with the matrixed version, the center channel is there but the information is stored with the two rear surround channels.
With an appropriate dts-es decoder that signal can be brought out to the surround back channel.
Doing it this way makes it backwards compatible with dts5.1 decoders.
DTS-es discrete is newer.DTS say it is far more open to supply a true surround sound.
Six independent channels are recorded and stored seperately, and if your machine supports it,it will recognise a flag and play it as discrete.
This is what's written in my Denon book anyway.

Spot on Simon. I have the R1 Gladiator and it flashes up on my Denon 3801 display as 'ES-DISCRETE'. Gladiator R1 is 6.1 discrete, as is R1 Chicken Run and R1 Seven (Two disc). No question about this.

Other discs are marked as DTS-ES, but are only matrixed. An example of this is Cast Away R1.

Is the bitrate for discrete 6.1 the same as for 5.1? If so, wouldn't that mean that the rest of the channels are slightly compromised quality-wise?
