View Full Version : Can you explain GhostWorld origins to me pls??
While shopping yesterday, I found this graphic novel of Ghost World. Ghost World novel (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0224060880/o/qid=1008166041/sr=2-1/ref=sr_bt_1/026-5385681-2501266)
I read a few pages and loved it, so I want to know how does this relate to the film.
Is this the orignal complete comic series that was turned into the film recently released with Thora Birch?
Or is this a completely different thing?
Has anyone read this and seen the film? If so, how closely related are they?
Thanks in advance for any help, cheers Stu G

Yep, spot on.
This is indeed the source for the film. haven't seen the film yet so can't comment on it's similarity to the book, but Dan Clowes who wrote the book worked closely with director Terry Zwigoff.
If you liked that book try some of Daniel Clowes others:
Orgy Bound
Lout Rampage
The Lloyd Llewellyn Collection
David Boring
It's also worth getting his comic Eightball, the books are largely made up from the comic. Although the release of the comic is very erratic, I remember waiting nearly a year between some issues.
Sean:)
Both are distinct but related works and enjoyable in their own rights or as complementary sides to Enid's story. There's quite a bit of stuff that was added to make the character arc work for a film (ie the 'love' story part of it.)
The graphic novel contains the entire story, which originally appeared in Eightball.

Read the Graphic Novel and see the film - two examples of among the best of their genre..
The plot of the film differs from that of the graphic novel, although it's still very episodic, but it keeps the feel and characterisations of Clowes' orginal work.
