I find it strange that i can't add MCE to most of the Dell machines even when it's an option, it just says it's incompatible, which is somewhat strange as it is just XP...
I wonder if it only works when you have a compatible TVCard in the machine? (I know the software would work, but Dell may have restricted the option to only be available if you have one of the compatible TVCards selected... *shrug*)

That can't be right, as the machines that come with MCE as standard dont even have TV cards in them!
Dang it. I paid the same for a 17" 5150 system a week ago :(
That is a stunning deal. I am in the market for a new pc but was gonna hang off till january and see if there was any good deals then.
Anyone any opinions?
I seem to recall that Dell's financial year end is at the end of November, hence the really good deals this time of year.

I can't seem to get this price for this spec now. Do they alter the prices on their website according to the amount of orders they are receiving?

Before putting the item in your basket you should get it down to £571. The delivery cost of £57 should be removed when you go through the checkout process.

Their end of quarter was October :)
My brother will love this.
Thanks OP
Is the Radeon X600 graphics card any good?
How does it compare to a Geforce 6800?

I've been running a X600 with a P4 3Ghz for the last year - plays Doom 3 and Half Life 2 absolutely fine

I don't think the x600 is a directx9 card though, as the Half Life 2 Lost Coast didn't work with the high dynamic range lighting as it said the card didn't support it.

Not worth it. I seen this and the normal TFT side by side

Mate had his through this morning - any idea if there is suppose ot be an actual XP disc with it or just those restore discs with all the AOL rubbish and stuff on too.
They often don't include the XP disk these days as Dell have a restore partition on the hard drive with a ghost image of the system at factory settings. If you want to reinstall XP you press 'control + F11' at a specific point during start up, it asks if you want to restore the system and lose all your data, you say yes, and you have a fresh XP install on the system with all drivers etc within 5 minutes ;) I've found it to be an invaluable feature!

Ok that sounds ok but will it do a fresh install of just XP or will it add all the other rubbish as well like AOL - reason I ask is we want to do a fresh install and set up a partition for the system files.
Also on the order it says 1 English Win XP SP2 Home edition - surely they then have to actually give it to you as oppose to just says its on the hard drive - what if the hard drive becomes corrupted or breaks?
Cheers

There is a use once only feature to make/burn an XP disk for yourself.

Am I missing something, because I get it as £629 before changing the monitor.
My gf has been looking to buy a pc through her work, and they have this package as £580 on a tax free scheme (they 'say' the original cost is £994), paid over an interest free period are there any major problems anyone knows of doing it this way??

My advice is to avoid Dell on the Goverment Tax sponsored schemes. You get the PC at the full Dell price, say £994 with 40% (Income Tax) and 1% (NI) taken off, so around £580. You pay for it over 3 years as a salary deduction, but ...... and it's a very big but ....... If you lose your job, you have to pay the remainder of the lease at the full price, so you lose the tax benefit. So, in this example you could pay twice the going price for the PC and at best, you are still paying more than buying it yourself.

The dearer price is because the offer is finished and the price is now over £100 dearer :(
Will be more so watch this space
