View Full Version : Nixon and The Doors - opinions?
I'm having a bit of an Ollie Stone phase. Wondered if anyone could give their thoughts on Nixon and The Doors and, if possible, which regions offer the best discs. Thanks in advance...

The Doors is a superb movie, though you'll get the most out of it if you're a Doors fan of course.
The current R1 is the best I think, though it's non-anamorphic so you might want to wait for a new release. There's a review @ the digital bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews2/stonedoors.html)
Does anyone know if it's due for release on R2.

When I was at school, I was really into The Doors (Still am a bit) but I remember watching this film all the time.
However, I recently watched it and have to say it is awful. The drummer of the band appears in the film and the other two members (Ray, Robbie) don't want anything to do with the movie.
I remeber watching a interview with Ray (keyboard/genius) and he quoted the film as "That awful Oliver Stone movie..."
Just my opinion.
Just hoping the Nixon SE finally comes out next year. Only seen a small section of the film but not prepared to buy the current disc knowing a new disc is pending.
Enjoyed The Doors. Shame the special edition was still non-anamorphic otherwise I would have bought it.

Robbie Kreiger is in the movie! In the scene where the guy is telling them they need more tunes like Herman's Hermits, he walks between the guy and the band (it may be the bit where he's trying to get Morrison to leave and go it on his own).
"Nixon" is a truly extraordinary film with some of the best screen acting I've ever seen from Anthony Hopkins and Joan Allen. It's a difficult, complicated film and it helps to have some knowledge of the history before you watch it (otherwise you will be non-plussed by some characters, notably the exotic G.Gordon Liddy), but Stone takes the material and turns it into something unique
Wait for the special edition.
yeah i too think Nixon is very good, hopkins is superb, even though he looks nothing like him - its better than JFK.
But a multiple viewings film? not sure, I have seen it twice.
The doors is weird - catches the time well.

The Andy Warhol party scene captures exactly what it's like to be drunk/lightly tripping/stoned better than any film I can remember!
