Can't wait !! (especially since all 3 movies are being released uncut in a sweet looking boxset YAY!!)
Yes i do like the sequels
SUE ME! ;):D
Very nice ... but I'm sticking with my Criterion version until those miserly extortionists over at MGM release the first movie alone. It's an insult to bundle it with the insipid wannabe ***** mascarading as it's sequels (you can see my palpable love for them here, oh yes indeedy).
"Trillogy" indeed -- absolute insult to the uber-cool acerbic original if you ask me (which no one has, so I'll say it anyhow ;) ).
No way am I going to cough up for 2 movies I plain don't want no matter how many bells and whistles they use to augment a film I already own a perfectly good version of!

Well, I just hope that, if it is a 1.85:1 print, it won't be too badly cropped. I can't remember how it looked at the cinema, although I imagine that it would have been framed at 1.85:1 for a theatrical release.
As for the sequels, I seem to be the only person alive who prefers #3 to the firsty sequel. IMHO Robo2 was a shallow chas-in that had none of the gloomy style of the original. Robo 3, although it was a more child-friendly approach, at least tried to capture the look and feel of the original.

Of course, we all really know both were of course utter dog-dung, but hey, each to their own ... ;)

there are no plans for a Robocop release on it's tod. If you want it you have to buy the trilogy. Looks like the distributors know the sequals are crap so have bundled them with no.1 just to shift them.

I honestly don't think the second one is all that bad. It follows on logically from the first with the police strike etc, and is well directed by Empire Strikes Back helmer Irvin Kershner. The first is a classic, and a classic this ain't (it lacks Basil Poledouris' superb score for a start), but IMO is a lot better than the third. Then again I haven't seen it in years so my opinion may change..and as I have the Criterion my main interest in the first would be the deleted scenes and the 5.1 sound.
Tempting.

Tempting. Never a truer word (sentence) spoken! (typed)
I now prefer the 3 one, but they really don't deserve to be uttered in the same breath as the original.
You wanna see a true sequel to Robocop, look no further. (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0120201)

I'm not saying the 3rd film is a great movie (the last 20 mins or so are pretty lame, and the 'smart' kid needs slapping at times), just that it at least tries to follow the atmosphere/style of the first film.
Robo2 didn't feel like it had anything to do with the first film...
It had violence for the sake of violence (e.g. the torture scene - even worse in the uncut version), rather than as a social commentary.
The whole film is too bright - too much was set at daytime, rather than at night.
The music score sucked.
The *new* suit made him walk like a mime artist, flailing his arms everywhere.
In the first (and third) films, camera angles were used to give RoboCop a sense of size and power - a lot of scenes were filmed from below the eyeline. In Robo2 he just looked like a 5'11" guy in a plastic suit.
IMHO, of course.......:p

I find it quite odd that people were prepared to pay around £28 for Robocop1 Criterion edition. Yet are ranting and raving at the thought of paying around £30 for an even better release plus the 2 sequels.
It's not the money I'm worried about! It's the principles! :p

It made my day today when I discovered a copy of the Criterion edition at the local market for £8! It was in mint condition too, I couldn't believe my luck. :D

I liked Robocop 2 a lot at the time of release, so IMO it's definitely worth £30 just for the first two. It might well be as bad as some have stated, but I'm willing to buy a copy in order to find out. Robocop 3 isn't even part of the series as far as I'm concerned and it sorely misses the adult content (and cast/talent) of the previous ones.
I'd recommend that everyone reads at least one review of the new discs before purchasing them though, as the recently re-released original (MGM bare-bones) is pretty terrible. The 1.85:1 image is a tad over-cropped and the remixed 5.1 sound is a noticeably compressed, particularly jangly affair (the plain Dolby on the criterion is actually preferable to that 'new' track). Hopefully this new R2 version will have been authored by different people.
