There is a good offer on the ******* website for the cheapest UK price for the top of the range model. Approx £190 delivered instead of £250.

Sounds good anyway!

Does it do what it says - i.e. improve MP3 sound quality? - are there any reviews of it anywhwere?

Could be worth a punt, as I was thinking of rigging up my pc to the hi-fi system.

Thats exactly the reason why I wanted the Retail pack rather than the OEM. With the OEM Creative tell you to get lost if you have a problem. Plus its likely that Creative dumped the earlier firmware x-fi's on to the OEMs because they can apply BIOS patches etc themselves.

I'll get one from these guys, as my mobo supposedly works fine with the x-fis. Thanks for the spot Charltonfan :)

How do you know your motherboard works fine with the x-fis? I've checked the Creative website and the only information on compatibility I could find was "Intel, AMD or 100% compatible motherboard chipset" required.

AFAIK there are no Intel boards that have a problem with the X-Fi, the problem is only related to certain AMD boards. It seems that a motherboard BIOS update will fix those ones too.

Looking at the Creative forum, they have released a newer version of the card, and its likely that the retail pack will be that version. If you get one that freezes your system, Creative say they'll change it (according to their forum mods). I think that only applies to the retail pack - OEM guys are on their own.

I'm getting mine tomorrow, and I'll post back if I have a problem. I have an A8N-sli Deluxe which some people did have problems with in the beginning, although the latest version of the BIOS from Asus has apparently cured it. I just really want this card :)

Cheers for the reply zapbrannigan, I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, so I'd be really interested to hear how you get on.

Finally decided to get one of these for BF2. Gotta be better than the Dell Dimension 5100 onboard. Yeah?

Looks like the Xi-Fi card don't work too well with BF2 ! :(

I've just decided to cancel my order...the Creative forums scared the hell out of me! With it being OEM and the problem being on the game I play the most online, it seems daft to go for it yet however cheap it is. I'll wait until these problems are fixed and take the plunge in the future.

Those problems though are AMD based aren't they?

Custom PC and PC Format have been raving about how good it is in BF2.

Just flicking back through the last few issues to see what their test platforms were.
