Popped into my local Vodafone store and asked for a demo today of Sky TV on Vodafone Live. Wasn't expecting much but it looked fantastic. Flicked through Sky News and Sky Sports News and it didn't stutter once.

It is free to try til the end of January 2006 so I am thinking of going for a Nokia N70 for £16 a month (1000 off peak mins and 250 txts pm but phone £100) via the Vodafone website.

Has anyone on Vodafone tried it today and what do you think of the quality? Anyone also have a Nokia N70 and if so is it any good?

just tried it and it isnt too bad.
Good job I've got free 3g for the rest of my contract as I could be using this a fair bit - especially sky movies :)

I'm trying it on virgin for next 3 months. Sky news, sky sports news and blaze (a music channel). Also, all the radio channels.

Its okay but who wants to watch sky news for hours?

Is the TV version of DAB via mobiles not going to kill this dead ?

I tried it briefly this morning on my new phone and was very impressed - especially as I don't have Sky!

Currently I don't think Sky Sports is part of the channel packages, but there will be clips shown I think and maybe eventually the whole channel will be available, or they'll do pay-per-view footie/cricket etc.

Very exciting!

Edit: Full details:

As a bonus service to celebrate the launch of Sky Mobile TV, Sky is giving all Vodafone live! with 3G customers the chance to watch Sky Sports' exclusively live coverage of the England cricket team's tour to Pakistan. Starting with the first Test in Multan on 12 November, a special Sky Sports Mobile channel will offer ball-by-ball coverage of all three Test matches and five One-Day Internationals.

Until the end of January next year each Sky Mobile TV pack will be provided free of charge (subject to Vodafone customer fair usage policy). From February 2006 customers will be charged £5.00 per month for each of the Sky Mobile TV packs to which they subscribe. The two Sky Mobile TV packs are:

News, Sport & Factual: Sky News; CNN; Bloomberg; Sky Sports News; At The Races; Discovery Factual; National Geographic Channel; History Channel.

Entertainment & Music: Sky One; Sky Movies; MTV (twochannels*); Living tv; Discovery Lifestyle; Nickelodeon; Paramount Comedy**; Cartoon Network; Bravo; Biography Channel.

* **One MTV channel will be available at launch featuring top MTV shows. The second MTV channel and Paramount Comedy will join the line-up later in the year.

Additional mobile channels are likely to join Sky Mobile TV over the coming months.

Wow!!!! The cricket!!! I don't have SKy but I have this!!!! Although I'm away until the third test I look forward to getting to watch it then :D

A bit odd that they chose Vodafone to do this.

A dying network with abysmal 3G coverage. They make 3 look good.

That Entertainment package looks quite good and not bad for £5, does this hammer the battery?

m8, nobody can make 3 look good.Nobody. :suspect:

Vodafone is the biggest network in the world and has easily the strongest signal allaround the are I stay and most of the places I have visited so that's probably why they were picked ;)

Check there website, they have 30% 3g covereage in the whole of the UK There 3g coverage is indeed the worst out of all ofthem......i think

They probably do have the strongest 2g signal how ever

Oh and also im not sure if its like the Orange TV, that was a con. £10 a month pus bandwidth costs!! Id rather have a little lcd telly and just make do with the basic 1,2,3,4,5

IMO on orange yes......I can get around 2 hours out of the battery if i use 3g for the full 2 hours.....ie network browsing etc.

Bearing in mind for every 5 mins you talk on a phone you take 1 hour of the stand by(roughly)

In the end it was just a useless gimmick as most people that watch it will either be going to or from work and keep roaming in different coverage areas which makes it have to start to rebuffer again..

Also as i mentioned im not sure if Voda charge for the 3g bandwidth used as well.

If there is a bandwith charge forget it gimmick at best who would want to watch something and pay by the K, rather listen to my mp3 or read a book.

No bandwith charge as its part of Voda Live! Of course, if you use it a lot, they may complain due to abuse of the service.

Anyone still using this? Is it available on any other networks yet?

dunno if any deals are available (it was free till jan 31st when i signed up in mid dec) but after it stopped being free I haven't used the live tv stuff. At the time I figured £5 per month was ok for the news/sports channels but in reality i wouldn't use it much so didn't sign up. the voda live! site is more useful for checking news/scores etc than the tv channels coz you cna't read the ticker tape updates on tv (text too small) and live! is free on most (if not all) voda monthly contracts.

I am semi interested in this Mobile TV thing on vodaphone.

Can someone confirm absolutely for me that you dont pay any more charges (usage time) than what you pay for the TV packs?

<s>Also, was looking at a 3G map by vodaphone and the coverage didnt look too bad...or is that just because I`m in the south east? </s> Just looked at the rest of the country...their 3G coverage is appauling! Which 3G network has the best?

Genrally though are Vodaphone good for normal calls, their deals on the website seem to be pretty good. Haven't been with Voda for about 5 years so interested as to what they are like now.

Why are they referred to as a dying network in this thread?

EDIT - Also, can I do a video chat with someone from Vodaphone if they are on 3?

The 3g coverage seems good in my area, im strongly considering switching to them and getting mobile tv. Will pop into the local vodafone store this weekend to see if they can demo it to me.
