Just got my copy of Quantum Leap season 2 (UK R2 version) and the first thing I did was check the last episode M.I.A to see if Georgia on My Mind (by Ray Charles) was in the background at the end of the episode....Guess what??? IT IS!...WooooHooooo!
I can't say if it's ALL there as I only got the dvd, but this was the one that really got on most people goat so I'm pleased to say, if this song is here then the rest probably is as well. I'm going to have to sit later and do a quick check of the missing songs :)
Packaging for the set is a mirror slip like the first season and the 6 discs are in a clear plastic amaray with artwork from the USA digi pak inside...The 6 discs are all doubled up (like LOST)
I'm so happy the music was not changed (at least for that bit) I've waited for what seems like forever on the R2 set for good news...It was worth the wait :)
Sorry if this has already been posted someplace else and is old news.
So far I've checked 'Disco Inferno', 'MIA', 'Another Mother', and 'Animal Frat' - all original music is present

Let's hope this isn't a mistake they'll have to recall. Fantastic news it is though.

And I bet there will be a few people re-buying becuase of this. Gret news guys.

U think they'll recall it or not ? I can't afford to get it now.

I'm betting it's not a problem. It's often much easier to get the rights for music in countries outside of the US. Hence why we saw a complete set of Ally McBeal dvd's here in the uk but not in the US. Of course I've just ordered it from a supplier who has it in stock just in case ;)

I got 10% off at Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/redirect-home^QS^tag=thedvdforums-21^QA^site=dvd) and free delivery and it's £22.49, sorry :)
I'm guessing the reason for the non-replacement is that the episodes were released on VHS over here (but the bulk of them weren't in America).
This is also why I suspect America had no replacement issues on their S1 release... all of the S1 episodes were released on VHS in America. I don't think the lack of episodes and the higher price of the first season set had anything to do with it.
So the replacement rights had already been negotiated for home video.

All the episodes weren't released on VHS over here. Just a couple of 'best of' volumes.
Plus it's often irrelevant wether or not the rights have been negotiated for home video. The rights holders have been arguing that "home video" is a different format from dvd therefore new payments and new negotations need to take place even if a series has previously been available on VHS. Of course the studios take a different view but it's not the kind of thing they would want to waste time and effort on in court, even if any contracts they already have could possibly hold up in court.

Excellent news re the music front. I've just ordered my copy to replace my R1 version, I will also NOT be buying the R1 versions of seasons 4 & 5 - but will hold out for the R2 versions.

It's been years since I've seen this show (I've got S1 sitting on my shelf untouched) and the music substitutions wouldn't have bothered me a great deal, if at all. But it's nice to know that someone out there actually bothered to clear the music for our S2 release, and seeing as I never bothered to get the later seasons on R1 I don't have to replace any existing sets. Win-win for me - just ordered S2. :)

Is it me, or are all the episodes not in the right order, as in the last episode of the previous series, he leap into the woman's body for the first time, but the first one in this series shows him leaping into the body of a honeymooner on a train? It may be just that first episode that's muddled.

You have to alllow for repeats during the run, and in some episodes the endings jump into previous leaps.

If you mean the cliffhanger of him leaping into the body of a woman, then it is resolved, it's just that the episodes are kinda mixed up so it happens about 4 episodes into the series.

So no-one else has noticed the drop-outs in the audio on certain episodes (like Disco Inferno and Blind Faith)? It sounds like the pitch-correction artefact I've heard on other PAL DVDs (e.g. Futurama R2, FOTR R2), and the voices of the actors (for example) are indeed lower.
As far as I can tell the episodes have been properly transferred to PAL in terms of video, so why would the audio be so messed up (and then only on certain episodes)? Instead of removing chunks of the longer-running NTSC audio track to make it fit with the PAL video, surely it'd just be sped up accordingly?
It's nice to have Quantum Leap S2 with the licensed music intact so I shouldn't moan, but to have the music affected by those bloody drop-outs is hugely annoying.

.
It's not pitch correction though I don't think. Some episodes have an abnormally lower pitch problem on the R1s too. Indeed it seems random across the board on both sets. I did comparisons.

Great news indeed! I've got the R1 versions of all three seasons released so far at home, but in this case I'll be buying the R2 sets as well - the show just isn't the same without the music ...

When production began on S2 it was decided that a more higher profile episode was needed to kick of the series.

I am REALLY disappointed with Universal-playback who issued this in the UK. I sat down to start watching it and it got NO SUBTITLES!, inexcusable!!!! and Season 3 is the same, but since that is newer, i have sent it to Amazon for a refund but I fear Season 2 will be too late to refund. I should have checked it earlier, Very disappointed esp I can't really get the American version as the music is incorrect!!! Any other regions that do this and has Subtitles ?

Unless you were hard of hearing, why would you want subtitles?

Personally I think it's much more important that all of the music is intact on the R2 releases. If we'd have to put up with the same, awful music-replacements like on the R1 releases, now THAT would be inexcusable, but with the music intact I couldn't care less about the lack of subtitles.

I am hard of hearing but not so bad that I can't hear anything and I do like music and I'd rather have the original music. So I guess I'll have to go without. :(

I like having subtitles as well. My hearing isn't great (hence my annoyance when audio is poor to begin with) so it's nice to have subs to fall back on. It's disappointing that they're not on these particular releases, but with the music being intact it's a minor irritant.
Not having seen the show in a few years I was a bit blase about the music replacement, but now I appreciate the emotional impact that the myriad classic tunes have (especially after seeing M.I.A.). Classic show - keep it coming Universal!
Although I don't make use of subtitles, I'd consider the lack of them to be significantly more inexcusable than the changes in music. After all, the music changes were apparently done because of legal issues, but there's no real reason at all for a lack of subtitles on the set.

Of course subtitles do cost, if they've ditched them in favour of using the dosh to clear the music, then that's fair enough.

I'll try :), What the best method for finding a number as there is not one on the website.
