I passed on buying the R2 version of Night On Earth earlier because I knew a R4 was coming. Now my R4 has been delivered and....guess what?....the box says 4:3 Fullscreen and the image is actually closer to 1.66:1 and is NOT anamorphic.
:(

Everywhere I read about the R2 version it is listed as 1.85:1 anamorphic. Can anybody confirm this, because I'm struggling to understand the logic of one PAL region offering a 1.85:1 anamorphic edition and another offering 1.66:1 non-anamorphic (mis-labelled even) within a few months of each other....it's possible I've just wasted £10.

It's 1.85:1 Anamorphic (I have it) - the only downside is that the subtitles are burnt in and it's got no extras at all - still it was cheap from under18 (and other good dvd retailers)

dvdtimes do have a review you know ...

Yes there is a DVDTimes review here :)

It is anamorphic 1.85:1 and subtitles are burnt in for all the foreign sections. The English section has no subtitles, English or otherwise.

Very nice print and transfer on the disc though.

Thanks.

It's still difficult to fathom why Siren would not have simply used the same master for the R4 release, especially so close to the R2 release date. And the R4 has the nicer cover too.
