I seriously need some help please.

I recently backup up some home movies on some dvd-r I used nero and verified data on the disc and all worked ok. I then used a cd catalogue program to read the data on the disk in which the movies where identified.

The movies where then deleted from my HD. I have just tried to watch them but when I insert the disc it says there is nothing on them. I get the message on XP to "insert a disc". Its not just this one disc but several I have backup recently but the home movies are the ones very much an emotional need to have back.

I have a pioneer 110d with XP sp2. I used datawrite grey 8x dvd-r as the media.

I am currently trying to use some programs to recover the data from HD but cannot see how it is possible for the dvd-r to do this, I have also tried on another PC which this also has a poineer 110d installed.

Any suggestions

Find someone with a different brand of DVD ideally a slower one (I personally find Panasonic DVD-RAMs the best for handling disks my NEC dvd can't read).

Make sure there are no obvious scratches on the disks, you can get disk repair devices that can remove scratched although I've never needed to use them.

Other than that, I can see what you can do.

In future make multiple copies and perhaps use a different technology, dvd-ram handles errors better and is more reliable.

Well I dug out my old pioneer 106 and the files are on the disc

Still not sure why the 110D is not reading the disc properly though

Pioneer dropped a bit of a clanger when the 109 first came out. I found that there were alsorts of discs that this wouldnt work with and it was not long before they released a firmware upgrade to improve media compatibility.

Looking into it, there would seem to be a few different firmwares for the 110, so may be worth updating the drive and trying your discs?

In addition, are you sure that you "finalized" the disc?

Nero has a habit of not ticking the "finalize disc" option. This makes it unreadable in some players until you then "finalize" the disc in Nero.

Yeah I have latest firmware 1.22 and def finalized disc as the disc works fine in my old 106 and also on other dvd players on pc's at work, its just my 110D which burnt the bloody things in the first place that now wont read them
