Fantomas 3 DVD set @ Amazon.fr (http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/dvd/B00005RJ69/)

Seems to be a 60s version with Jean Marais. Also includes a few special features. Anyone have this or can give us a summary/recommendation? I’ve a strong suspicion that this set will also have no English subs.</center>

I didn't even know that this version of Fantomas was being released. Thanks for the info. :)

I have just ordered a copy from Amazon.fr to replace my old VHS copies I taped off French TV many years ago.

I guess I will have to wait a few days for delivery, but if no one else has posted any info in the mean time I will try and give a summary.

No english subs, but cinestore says it has french subtitles for the hard of hearing, for those who find that enough help to make things comprehensible.
At www.cinestore.com I also found the soundtrack cd ("BOF" - Bande Originale de Film), and you can listen to clips - it's quite a cool sounding 60s soundtrack.

The films look to have an almost Bond-like 60s thing going on, and since Louis de Funes, who plays Inspector Juve is (correct me if I'm wrong) mainly known as a comic actor, then I assume that they are probably a little more comedy orientated than the silent classics. But Jean Marais looks very dashing on the covers.

I found the french subtitles for the hard of hearing pretty easy to follow when I watched the 1959 version of Liaisons Dangereuses - very cool, sexy movie, BTW, a modernised version with Gerard Philippe and Jeanne Moreau, directed by Roger Vadim.
The way they colour code who's speaking is strange at first, and the subtitling of sound effects and music is a little irritating. But I guess it's not much fun seeing the subtitle "Jazz" come up and not be able to hear what is actually some very nice Thelonius Monk, so I'll just be glad I have my hearing.
