I want to get The Mists Of Avalon DVD, but it looks like it is an RCE title.
Will the Wharfedale 750s play RCE titles (it is currently set to region free and has no problems with R1, R2 & R4 at present)? or can it be handset-hacked to play them?
Failing that, will RCE titles play on the DVD-ROM drive in the PC (also Region Free and used with WinDVD, RegionKiller and DVDGenie).
Cheers.
From the Wharefdale FAQ (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?html=y&id=wharfedale.html).
3. Can the Wharfedale DVD750 cope with RCE-enabled discs?
Yes and No! With the DVD750, there are two ways of finding out - and one involves using a screwdriver! The first option is to get hold of an RCE disc - the Region 1 release of 'The Patriot' is RCE encoded. The other option is to remove the case of your player and to check the firmware version.
Follow the steps below:
Remove the screws and top cover.
Locate the firmware chip - it will be marked: Wharfedale 750 CS=nnnn (where nnnn is one of the firmware versions below):
5EE8 - Original firmware, does not play RCE discs
CBE8 - Interim firmware, plays back RCE discs using the standard DVD750 hack
328C - Latest firmware, plays back RCE discs using the standard DVD750 hack
<b>The Wharfedale DVD750S (both Generations) and Wharfedale DVD-M5 can play back RCE discs without any problems</b>
About the DVD-ROM I reckon it's software dependent and if you are using the dvd genie then it is more likely to play an RCE title.

If it won't work on the 750s when set to region free, it will definitely work by setting the region to 1.
I have the 750s but set mine to which ever region i'm watching (i know i'm a masochist).
Region 1 Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is RCE and works fine on my 750s.

Cheers for the replies.
Philc: I forgot all about the Wharfedale FAQ:o :o
LauraLC: It's the 750s that I have, if the regions are changed manually, is there a limit to the amount of times they can be changed before it locks into one region only (like some PC DVD-ROM Drives and the old Philips DVD players)? Or are the changes unlimited?
Thanks

It's an unlimited number of times.

But you should never need to bother changing it to a specific region as once you have made it region free with the appropriate hack a 750S will play all regions including R1 RCE discs without problems.
