The Inaugral Season of PES 5 will start on the 18th November.

I know its a bit early, but i thought i'd start the signup, so any new players can join our little community for pre-season friendlies.

Rules and tables etc :- http://proevo5.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

For the first season only you can play with any team you like. You don't have to nominate this team until the start of the season.

There will be deadlines set throughout the season so that matches are played at a reasonable rate. If you know you're going to have a prolonged absence from the game, let me know so that you don't get booted out while you're away.

The cup competition will start at the end of week 2.

Matches can be arranged in the thread or via MSN.

All, but Stevie in particular

Was wondering about the format for playing games in the league this season for PES5. I assume we will still be playing 'home' and 'away' matches as before but with the client and host swapping at half time the lag issue may become a serious stumbling block and cause even more rows than before.

Previously you could disconnect in the first 10 match-mins if you were suffering lag as the client. However, what about this scenario:

1. Opponent hosts the first half and you are winning at half time
2. The host and client swap at half time
3. Your opponent claims lag as the client in the second half and decides to disconnect

I think we may need to formalise a rule to overcome this such as playing a new second half only with the scores aggregated over the 2 halves, i.e. the score at half time stands and you only play a new second half by setting up a new game. In the scenario above the 2nd half host would invite the opponent for a new 10 minute game, the first half only counting towards the fixture.

Whaddya think? (apologies if this has already been covered in a post elsewhere)

steviep922

I've been pondering this over the last few days.

I don't understand why Konami introduced this. I can't think of a sensilbe solution to solve the problem either. I think your idea might complicate matters.

What i do know is that we can't allow matches to be abandoned due to lag, as that will lead to accusations of cheating.

eg. I host the first leg against Smiller (for example) and he score 3 goals. So at the start of the second half i could suddenly say Smillers connection is laggy and abandon the game.

Is it possible to set 20 minute matches up? That way the first half can be one match & the second half the second match. That way if lag does become an issue in the second half it doesn't affect the result of the first match.

DarthPearce
02-11-2005, 09:34
I think you can set it not to swap at half time, it's one of the top 3 options when you are creating a game (but I can't remember what it's labelled at the moment.)

If I'm right we can set it not to swap and play home and away like last season.....

Is that what point change (I think) does?

In that case we'll just change the setting rule, so that it is set to No.

I believe so, it makes sense to me and I can't see what else it would do.

pingu
02-11-2005, 14:00
I presumed point change was to do with the online rankings and whether you lost or gained points depending on whether you won/drew/lost the game.
If you set it to No/Off then there is no exchange of points.
That makes more sense to me.

That's what I took it as too. Maybe someone could test it out (I've not got many points in the first place to exchange   )

I think the 20 minute game would work though and treat each half as a single fixture.

steviep922

I did some investigation last night, and point change is as Pingu described.

I think a 20 minute match is the only option.

If we are going to play 20 min matches I think it would be better to only play the first half of each match and then finish and the other person set up a 20 min match. Otherwise you could potentially play your away leg with lag, injured players, or with a player sent off from the first half.

This will play havoc with our live stats though with people being listed as quitting matches left, right and centre!

This is a good point, what if a player goes off injured or is sent off in the first half then he can't play in the "2nd Game". But we can't all quit 18-20 games a season either. - No help whatsoever from me there. :help:

Zboniek
03-11-2005, 16:36
Fair enough there's been a few annoying (sometimes very annoying!) lag moments but in the 60-70 league & cup games I've played there's only been one game where it went to pot in the 2nd half and was really bad and one game where it quit on both of us.

In saying that, I had 4 friendlies with ScottWilson a couple of weeks ago and in two of the games it was pausing and jumping from one end to the other so .... no help there either.

Either 10 min games and rely on peoples honesty  or should that be :)
or 20min games and that's your game e.g. 9 games each for a 10man league.

steviep922
03-11-2005, 17:37
I thought that a 20 minute game would be a good idea until i read Renegade Ram's post.

I don't think lag is a major issue in games between forumites, so for season 1 i might just leave it as it is, ie 2 ten minute matches.

That'd be my preference - I can't think of a single game in PES4 against forumites where the lag has been unplayable, and in most cases if it's bad for one person it's as bad for the other when you switch hosts.

That wasn't my experience last night with my cup game - Lentini said the connection was fine when I hosted but it was by far the worst lag I had encountered when it switched to him hosting for the second half... :(

Played seven games against Scott Wilson last night and only noticed small lag issues.

Surely if we play our two ten minute games in quick succession then the lag problems (if any) will balance out over the twenty minutes as both people are hosting for equal periods?

Finally found my favoured Pro Evo 5 team as well!

Arsenal. They are full of fast dribblers (Hleb, Lundberg and even Pires) and have probably the best striker of them all (Henry). The defence is pretty solid as well. Tried Man Utd and Chelsea but Arsenal seem to be best for me at the moment.

For some strange reason I also like playing as Scotland. They aren't that great a side but I seem to get good results with them.
