Just got connected to UKOnline today - done some test downloads and my speed is pretty steady at 800KB/sec...
Obviously I'm pretty happy with this  but someone suggested I at least try and tweak my MTU to see if I can get it even higher. I've googled it but can't seem to find a straightforward explanation as to how this is done?
Also, I know you have to do it for each machine connected to the internet, and that the MTU should be the same, but my Netgear router also has an MTU setting (currently set at 1458) - should these all be the same?
I ran the dslreports tweak check but that was pretty much a waste of time...
Anyone help?
Change the Router MTU to 1478
and then change your Nic Card MTU and Rwin settings using DrTCP.
http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
Try these settings in Dr TCP:
Choose the correct Adapter.
RWIN - (TCP Receive Window) - 28760
MTU - 1478
See if that little tweak helps.
ps. you have to reboot the PC.

Yes! That boosted things to around 835KB/sec :D
Thanks for the detailed instructions - made things so easy!
Can I go any higher?
as you're on 8Meg you might find a higher RWIN will improve things a bit more, try 76214
there's a thread called tweaks to try in the easynet forum on adslguide that has a few other numbers to try.

Thanks, will try that...
Related question (because I found the advice on that thread in Adslguide  )
Only got my 8mb setup yesterday, and I can now merrilly download from Usenet at 830KB/sec. But I can't seem to download from HTTP at even 100KB/sec. I saw on that tweaks thread on ADSLGuide that you can use http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/ContentShowcase.aspx to test your speed as it always maxes your connection unless there is something wrong with it... Well I tried downloading from there and was getting 35KB/sec on an 8mb line?
Any ideas why that would be?

Wow, changed the RWIN and I'm now getting 890KB/sec through http! Not tried Usenet yet...
Thanks. Guessing that's about as good as it's gonna get? Or is it worth keep tweaking?
