I have put this thread in the main gaming forum because I thought that if it was in the pro evo sub-forum no PS2 owners would see it!
Following on from a conversation here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372098) I just wanted to see who would be interested in a PS2 pro evo league when the new one comes out.
I was mocked for thinking anyone would play it with their PS2 but I've never had any problems with using my PS2 online.
If you are interested in playing pro evo 5 on your ps2 in a dvd forums league then wack your name in tyhis thread to see how many of us there are. I'm hoping for more than 2 people! :)

The PC and XBox leagues are using variations of it at the moment :)

You need a PS2 network adapter for the big PS2. The slim one already has one built in. You then need a wireless network bridge to plug in and get on your wireless broadband then I think all you need is the game!

PS2 network adapters like this one (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-9479574?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.co.uk/Official-Sony-PS2-Network-Adapter-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ8226574112QQcategoryZ117047QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) probably cost around £20 but I've never bought one so I'm not sure.
I'm def up for it but i am waiting on my PS2 adapter and have not yet even tried it yet so all depends if i can get it working!

Sure, but I presume there will be some sort of time limit that they have to be played by. Anyway, not a huge issue - time constraint is really that I can only play after 9pm or 10pm on some days so that should be fine. Looking forward to ending bottom of the table, but doing it in style! (yes, I'm a Spurs fan).

Right got my adapter for PS2 now and think i installed it right. Well it connected to hub and saved my details.
I will test properly when i get my hands on PES5 :clap:

I'd say give it a week or two for people to adjust to PES5 and to see how the online side works. Allows more time for interest too.

Agree with Damell, the already established Xbox league isn't starting until mid november. It could take a couple of weeks just to get any router issues sorted.

my copy dropped through the door this morning and I'm off work sick! It's a bit more tricky than the last. 2 1-0 wins so far and both goals have come from defensive mistakes on the part of the computer player! It plays even more like real life than the last (if that is possible) but at the moment I'm rubbish at it!

though it might have to be for the one that starts in the new year as i've probably got a month long wait for my £14.99 copy from HMV (Delays expected).
Never been online with my PS2 before, I have a Network Adapter but i get my Broadband through a USB ADSL modem (no Ethernet output), so am i right in thinking that the cheapest/best way for me to get online is to buy a Crossover cable and plug it into my Network Interface Card on my PC and then into my PS2?

Managed to get my PS2 online and play 3 games against some random guy. Lost on penos the first, then won 1-0 and 2-1. Was very enjoyable!
All I had to do was set up the network bridge using the instructions using my PC, then when it was working I just plugged it into the PS2 and away I went.
It all works seamlessly and there was no lag so I think it'll be easy to have a little league amongst ourselves. All we have to do is creat a room with a password (e.g. DVD or something like that) and then the challenger comes in and plays the game!
This new Pro Evo 5 seems to be much more fluid than the last, and some of the shots are AMAZING!!! Quite liking it so far. I'm off to get an option file. Does anyone know if the one off PESFAN.com is complete because I don't quite understand why they're releasing one every day!

You need an x-port or a max drive to load the option files on and I'd recommend the pesfan.com official option file. It's being written as we speak and will probably be released in the next couple of days.
The online side sounds great, just hoping gamestation will sell it to me tonight.

just plug the broadband into the back of your slimline and thats all you need. When you click on network in PES5 it'll take you to the network setup that you need.

Ok i have cable going from my router upstairs down to my living room. It was used for Xbox live but since i dont use that anymore it just sits there. Can i just plug it into the PS2 network adapter and bobs your uncle or do i have to fiddle with any settings on my router?

you might have to open up a port on your router that PES5 tells you to( it did for me) but other than that I think bob is your mothers brother, yes.

Just picked up the network adapter £20 in Currys. Not too bad considering most online places seem out of stock.

here's a tip for those who don't RTFM like me - when in online mode pressing Start will take you to another menu which will allow you to look at the rankings and other settings - took me a while to work out why other players seemed to have things like "favourite club" in their details.

Right, got the game and my adapter yesterday, signed up etc online but I didn't feel like getting owned by some annoying 12 year old who's been practising since Friday morning, so didn't actually play online last night. So you can move me over into the confirmed section, please :)

Think this has had long enough in the games forum for anyone who would be interested to have become aware of it.
ok i need a bit of help. got the game gone into the network settings to configure it and the connection times out. i'm using a netgear 834 router with a wired connection to my ps2 and pipex if that helps.

Is your router configured to use DHCP? It should just be a case of setting all the PS2 online settings to Auto and your router will deal with the rest.
the dhcp setting says ppoa, is that right

OK then...seeing as we are now in the Pro Evo Tournament Forum shall we get this thing going then? How about a mini league with the people who are interested so far? I'm sure we can wizz through all the games in about a month at which point any extra players can join before christmas.
So, shall we say we can start this weekend? Whoever I have been in contact with and has emailed me back will be in the league
I will email all the people on the list (as well as the possibles) to get their information and make sure that they still wish to play.
The information I need is your tag, your msn messenger address, and the team you will be playing with. You can either email me or put the information in this thread.

Ono was kind enough to send me some rules so here they are in their simplified version for our mini-league:
Rules
1. MATCH SETTINGS
1.1 HOME (host) and AWAY (client) matches to be played between teams.
1.2 If someone cannot host then they can (via mutual agreement) play their HOME game as client.
1.3 Match settings are below: -
Match Time: 10 min
Injuries: Yes
Max subs: 3 players
Extra Time: No
Penalties: No
Referee: Random
Player Condition: Random
Stadium: Random
Weather: Fine
All other settings at discretion of HOME team.
2. DISCONNECTED GAMES
2.1 If you are disconnected then you replay the match with the current scores added to the replayed match (For league purposes the first match is always deemed as a 1-0 scoreline).
e.g.
Team A winning 5-0 against Team B before disconnection.
Team A wins 3-0 in replay.
Match result is 4-0.
Team A winning 2-1 before disconnection.
Team B wins 3-2 in replay.
Match result is 3-3 DRAW
Team A winning 2-0 before disconnection.
Team B wins 3-0 in replay.
Match result is 3-1 victory for Team B
3. REPORTING RESULTS
3.1 Results must be posted on the thread with the HOME team first (in BOLD would aid my results tracking)

But you should make sure you are VERY CLEAR with each other when you are playing an official. Speak in the lobby to check that you are in agreement.
4. PLAYER DROPOUTS
4.1 Although I hope we get no dropouts, things happen so the rules for any player who drops out are as follows:
- If a standby player is available they will take the place of the dropout wherever they may be in the league.
- If not then the dropout’s results and matches will be removed entirely from the league tables.
5. MOST IMPORTANT RULE
5.1 It’s just a game. Have fun and don’t get too wound up about things like lag, boring play styles, fouling etc. NO BITCHING you hoes.
If anyone is unhappy with these or wants to change them in some way then let me know this week and we'll discuss them before we start playing league games.

I probably will be...what does everyone think about having the same team. I think that it should be ok, its what you do withthem that counts. also, it seems unfair that people can grab teams before anyone gets a look in....like I did with AC Milan!

Really want to be a part of this mini league but having real trouble getting my PS2 online:-
I have an ADSL Broadband through a USB modem (ISP is Tiscali) so to get online with my PS2 I’ve connected an Ethernet card in the back of my PC to my PS2 using a crossover cable & internet sharing.
The Automatic setup that you can select on the disc that comes with the PS2 Network adapter didn't work so I’ve done it all manually (IP, Gateway, DNS etc).
Now here's the annoying bit: - when I do a diagnostic after setting it all up, it passes with 5 green lights but when I try and connect to register my details it comes up saying "Central Station Cannot Be Contacted, Check your settings and try again".
I've also tried bypassing the start-up disc option and playing a network game but it still wont connect at all.
Now I’ve also heard that some ISP's don’t allow more than one connection from a user but I've phoned Tiscali and they have told me this is not the case with them and that it should work.
Can anyone help, much appreciated. :brickwall

Really want to be a part of this mini league but having real trouble getting my PS2 online:-
I have an ADSL Broadband through a USB modem (ISP is Tiscali) so to get online with my PS2 I’ve connected an Ethernet card in the back of my PC to my PS2 using a crossover cable & internet sharing.
The Automatic setup that you can select on the disc that comes with the PS2 Network adapter didn't work so I’ve done it all manually (IP, Gateway, DNS etc).
Now here's the annoying bit: - when I do a diagnostic after setting it all up, it passes with 5 green lights but when I try and connect to register my details it comes up saying "Central Station Cannot Be Contacted, Check your settings and try again".
I've also tried bypassing the start-up disc option and playing a network game but it still wont connect at all.
Now I’ve also heard that some ISP's don’t allow more than one connection from a user but I've phoned Tiscali and they have told me this is not the case with them and that it should work.
Can anyone help, much appreciated. :brickwall

I really think I will be the whipping boy, my master league experience hasn't gone too well, rock bottom after the first season, one win and 10 draws :o Most of them were 0-0 :o
Maybe I'll be better with some players that can run, jump, shoot and dribble.

Have been over to the Sony Network Help Forums and apparently it's Tiscali - They've changed/closed some ports in the last 24hrs.

Have a wireless network already set up from my desktop so I can access the Web on my laptop around the house. Using a Linksys WRT54G router and can connect the PS2 (slimline) via an ethernet cable from the bedroom to the lounge (much to the annoyance of the wife). The PS2 would appear to have USB connections on it, can I therefore just get a wireless USB connector and use this for on line play or do I need something else?

Must say its growing on me. I was really worried at first that nothing seemed to work and i could not score to save my life, this coupled with getting hammered by cocky gits and spanish schoolboys made me frustrated. However it all began to click tonight, i'll never set the world on fire with my play but i'm getting much better. Had some cracking games with Idle child :notworthy really close entertaining battles, this in a nutshell is what evo 5 is all about for me. Long may it continue :clap:

Well, what can i say Jez and Mac,
Those games were all excellent. :D
I seem to have developed an uncanny knack for losing on penalties. My second game with Jez (I stupidly picked AC Milan, instead of Juventus) and Jez just knew where i was kicking all the way, like he was in my living room, right next to me. Talk about sixth sense.
Then i lost to Mac on penalties after going well ahead - he was scuffing his shots :p but i still managed to lose with a collapse in concentration! What a comeback Mac.
We then had quite an entertaining game of "how many men can the ref possibly send off?". Haha, most fun. First his player, and a penalty to me, moments later (and a stupid error after), my player recieved his marching orders too and it was Mac's penalty. Then it was a kind of open ended 10 V 10 game were the goals just kept on coming. I thought i would be running away with it but Mac got back in the game and it was a tight finisher where i just about edged a goal to take the win 3-2.
Oh, i just wondered at half-time, if i press the start button to skip the cutscenes are they skipped for the other player? Or do i only go to the menu screen while they keep watching the highlights? Always curious about this and wondered what should be the ettiquette here in our league. I don't want to annoy anyone, sometimes i get a little anxious to start the next half - especially if i'm losing. ;)
Overall, quite an entertaining night of Pro Evo playing. Most pleased. Ta lads.
Freelancer shall I out you back as Arsenal or is Juve now your first choice?
Yes please Tim. I'm very comfortable playing as Juve, so i'd like them to be my first choice. Jez has taken Arsenal, so i'll be Juve. Thanks.

I think so, I haven't played the other offline game much but I think it has something to do with a slight bit of lag.

As far as fixtures are concerned, I think we should just start playing from now so if you want to play a league game arrange it here or by email. The rules are in post #83 and when you have played your 2 official games against an opponenet come in here and post them in bold to make it clear that they are official results.

Well we could say that there is a maximum of 2 games per week, this way the shortest time we will be able to finish will be about 5 weeks, or longest 10 weeks which is a nice little first DVDF PS2 league!

congrats on playing the first match. You will play each person home and away but I think it is more fun to play each other with a bit of a gap in between so you can see how the other player has improved. If you feel like playing your home and away games back to back though then its up to you. Don't want too many rules clogging the league up!
I've got some time now so I'll make a little web page...tho it'll be no where near the standard of Bolchs!
Where's the updated league table, I want to bask in my moment of glory before I come crashing back to earth and end up bottom of the league :(
I was being very flukey, although Hartson missed a chance early on in the game that he should have put in the back of the net.

Can I make a request to keep track of goalscorers as i think it'd make the game a bit more fun. Maybe it's the closet stat junkie in me trying to come out, but i don't want to reach the point of it being a chore, of course. Just would be nice if league members all kept a notebook handy to log some basic match stats and keep track of who are their best players in the league - that way it makes substituitions more interesting and agonising if not only are we chasing to win the league, but also chasing to win the GOLDEN BOOT, or top assister tourney. Eg, i might not sub Del Piero if i know he's my top scorer as i might want to try and keep his scoring run going. However, only downside to this might be that we all ned to be different teams, so there is no player duplication.
But various stat tracking will make the league more interesting as we'll be able to see the improvements over time. And seeing as we're only going to be playing around 2 official league games a week, it's not going to kill us to just log some basic details of those 2 ten minute matches. As long as atleast one person does make a note from the games, it'll all be easy as pie.
Oh, and i don't think it'll be too late for echoleader to join, seeing as we've only played one official match yet and there are plenty of players yet to start. But it's Tim's call as he's making the webpage and keeping track of the stats as the league owner. I'm ok with it.
PS, i can't believe only 1 official match has been played all day!! Come on lads, "LET'S BE HAVIN' YOU!!". :nuts:

Sorry Echoeleader it's been harder to keep track of everyone than I realised and I thought everyone would keep track of this thread if they were interested!
Seeing as we have had only 1 official game, I have no problem in letting you in to the league today, making the league size 12 because I don't want anyone missing out and the more the merrier!
After today, that will be it for league signups, apart from MC Rubber Chicken who had his house burglarized! He has special dispensation to arrive late because he needs to buy a new PS2 and pro evo 5!

Assists would be under the Match details screen. Pressing the shoulder buttons to cycle through the pages, and there would be the name of the assister in the scoring summary for each goal.

Was a bit annoyed with my performance in the official game, but me and Jez had a cracker firendly where seedorf side volleyed from the edge of the box into the top corner to put me 1 up, then Henry chipped and curled a ball round my keeper for 1-1. Henry finished late so Jez won 2-1.

By the way, until I find out from Ono how to edit the spreadsheet to include extra players I cannot edit the guys who joined today. Its locked and I'm not sure how to unlock it!
Well me and Tim just had a couple of cracking games :thumbs:
The first (being the practice/warm up) was particuarly good, with Tim scoring a crackin volley with Seedorf. Then i got one managing to chip the ball over the keeper with curl!! God knows how i manged that, especially as Henry was on a downer :D
Anyway on with the proper game where Tim tried to outsmart me with lag ;) :lol: so we had to start again.
Proper game another tight affair, having to work hard for my 2-0 win in the end a pen and corner in the last min.
Alittle harsh on Tim, as i thought he played better than me and created more chances!

Was a tough tussle in the first half with both sides scrapping in midfield which the possession reflects. At half time I switched formation and it gave me some more chances with Schevvy and luckily for me he buried them! I think 2-0 flatters me but I'll take the result! :)

If you're talking about in the league then I would say u can have extra time or penalties if u want, just to decide who is the greatest :lol: but only the first 90 minutes count towards the points. so if its 0-0 full time, and someone wins 5-4 in extra time, 0-0 is the score.

Oh i see. I thought that games decided on penalties would be counted in the league standings too. But what happens in the golden boot comp? Do all the player's goals count when taken to P.K?

haha I'm afraid not.
So far as the league is concerned, only the first 90 minutes count. What you do after that is entirely up to you but don't include it in any official match stats.

After two warm-up friendlies that i narrowly skimped a victory, wasn't to be in the official league game. Overall a tight affair but i thought Mac edged it. Couldn't believe my luck when i brought Duff down in the box but nothing awarded, and then moments later Del Piero was brought down and i had a penalty! But Macus saved it! Unbelievable. Then i thought i scored on an effort from a high through ball in the middle- but it was offside! i was practically celebrating in the living room, but not to be. Mac had some chances too but couldn't take the full points.
(note, after 90 it ended nil nil. But then what does Mac do in extra time? He nets a Duff header and takes the game).
Great game Mac. It seems there are always penalty dramas when we play each other.. :nuts:

I didn't have the time to create a fixture list and I thought that it was a bit pointless anyway. I think it is much easier for all if you arrange your matches as and when you feel like it, because there are quite a few people in the league who wouldn't be able to stick to a fixture list. As long as we all play each other twice it should all run smoothly.

Ha no don't worry about it. I think we should all go over to your site because it will be infinitely easier. That way everyone can report their own scores and everything will be updated automatically. The stats it'll produce are far superior to my little site!
Is everyone else in the league happy with this? Instead of reporting results on here, posting them on bolchs site so everything is automated.
Bolch: Would your site allow some cross platform comparisons? For example, a golden boot for the amount of goals scored divided by games played? this way we can find a forum champ!! Just a thought, I'm sure you've got plenty more to do to finish it off before you start taking requests.
It's possible that's for certain, but yeah got a more than a few things to cover first.
If everyone is cool with it and registered by the end of the week I'll have it sorted so they can enter their scores by end of Sunday night.

Just lost my first league game tonight, lost 2-0 away, but was denied a goal for a dodgy offside decision which effected the rest of the game :) Yeah right! Marty played excellently and created a lot of chances. I believe he will post the resuts shortly.

Just looking at the league table on the website and it's pretty wrong! Buster007 ought to be top, surely? Then me 2nd, based on goal difference, and so on.
But I'm the only person who's played who hasn't let in a goal \o/ That won't last long, I'm sure, I'm pretty scared at the number of shots going in in the other matches.

I have not conceded yet but my scores are not up. Looking at the stats from mine and CMGs match, it does look like im a lot better than I am! I thought it was a lot closer than that and I was lucky to win!

So its only the goal diff thats wrong?! I wouldn't call that a catastrophe! Just say we're all equal. As long as the points are correct then I'm happy. I'm not sure if Ono has coded that macro to include goal difference so I will be unable to change it because I am worried about mucking the whole thing up!
I'm sure as the games get going we'll all be on different points so it shouldn't matter.

A good tight game tonight in the London derby, a game of disallowed goals 2 to Marty and 1 to me all 3 very close.
As you can see from the stats i cannot finish my dinner at all, was really annoying me that i just kept shooting over or wide :|

Well played guys, but the league's been pretty low scoring so far. Perhaps thats a PES5 trait, easier to shut out attacks?
I've just had 3 games and I'm on a losing streak again. I lost 1-0 own goal in the 85th minute which annoyed me. then played someone else and got 10 shots on target to his 1 and lost 1-0. Then played him again, went 1 up and he equalised in 89th min and won on penalties. I had to force myself to turn the PS2 off and go to bed because I hate not winning at all, especially under these circumstances!!!

Good game with CMG last my goal was so lucky and felt abit bad scoring it, sorry mate. Another good game though, got abit scrappy at times in midfield but overall good quality :thumbs:

I fixed the spreadsheet's league table bug(I think), but obviously that's stopped Tim from updating til I'd done it and he's probably a bit busy with that thing called real life. I'm sure he'll update it when he gets a chance.

Well I said that but Jez is a bit keen so I don't see a problem playing your games. Trouble is you might get thro them before eveyone else and it'll lose some of the suspense.

well after a couple of warm up matches it was crunch time..
a totti free kick nearly led to an own goal, but that was about as close as roma were going to get and rightly so , Deportivo twice made the keeper earn his wages and put a dent in the upright... so a hard fought draw for the home team,
well at least i'll be off the bottom for a bit.....

My PC and PS2 are in different rooms as well so I usually arrange it on here with Messenger and arrange a server, then quickly run into the other room and log on! It's not ideal but messenger is the easiest way. There's usually one of us guys online who wants to play an official match.

This game was an offical game.
I wont play anyone else untill next week, or untill someone asks me on here. That should keep the games down to a minimum.
I reckon we should limit it to make it last. I.E 2 games a week is about right! However if you dont play for 2 weeks, then you can play 4 games to catch up, if you can get em organised!

I was well annoyed about the V Der sar goal! It was Duff that lamped it at him and he fumpled and it rolled into the net! Im sure duff should have got the credit for it but hey! I think 2 games a week is ample, it'll allow much more rivalry to come up over the period we're playing for. Whilst I don't want to make it a hard and fast rule, we ought to decide when a week starts/ends for the purposes of the league. Thursday night maybe, so the weekend is all in one week.
BTW Tim, I sent you another update to the spreadsheet, with another button to make your life easier!

Yeh it was originally correct but Wocko has been meddling ;) I was tryin to get the auto sort to work but it moved all the numbers around and not the players names, but wocko has sorted it out for me now!
I think everything is correct and up to date, if it is not then let me know.
So, we're agreed on 2 games per week? I was thinking that the week could start Saturday and run through till Friday. That way it is orientated around the weekend, that sound fair?

Yeh I've found that...strange isn't it. It seems to start as soon as the 2nd half kicks off, although it's been better recently for me, not sure why...

Rohail - I wouldn't mind you joining so long as you caught up your first 2 weeks games in the first week i.e. 4 official matches next week. However, I think it should be thrown open to the league as a whole. So long as there are no objections we could fit you in. I might email/messenger MC Rubber Chicken to see if he is any nearer owning a new PS2 after his burglary or whether you could take his place...or even the place of the people who are in the league but are not contactable :lol:

OK I'l liase with you tomorrow but it shouldn't be an issue because once we start using your site I'll have an excuse to turn people away that want to join late! At the mo I just wanna let everyone in because we can, and I can see people asking to join the last day of the season and me letting them!! I don't wanna leave anyone out!
But, when we're with you that'll be the deadline date. At the moment there should be 14 PS2 players but I'll confirm tomos when some more people have given the OK for one last player (Rohail)

Those are a couple of amazing results, think the quality in this league is gonna be higher than I realised.
I played Buster in a friendly and I think the score was 3-2 to him so I'm gonna have some trouble against you guys!

Talking of good goals, I scored my best so far against Jez! Kaka crossed to Seedorf on the edge of the box who did a side volley into the top corner!!! I was quite happy with it, and it was all the better that someone in the league witnessed it. Shame I lost to him in the league :p

Some good games there Dunny. In first friendly i got a penalty, in the second Dunny got a man sent off. But for the final, i'm so glad a picked up a win at last.
