With PES 5 only a week away, we need to start thinking about the inaugral season.
Points to consider : -
1. Do we resume with everybody in their current divisions (taking into account this seasons promotions / relegations) or should we randomise it for season 1? I favour randomising the divs.
2. Team allocation. Do we follow the format of the last few seasons, by randomly allocating the top teams? Or should we be allowed to play with whatever team we feel like. Random allocation for me.
3. I think we need to introduce strict timetables for getting matches played. (see the first post of any PC league season for an example). It's annoying when players signup and don't get there matches played. Also players that get booted from the league will be banned from the following season as well.
4. When do we start the league? Are the majority purchasing this game on release day or getting it as a xmas pressie! Those of us that are getting it via the HMV misprice aren't guaranteed to get it on release day. I think a kick off in mid november would be realistic. This should allow us to get some practice in, suss out any lag problems & work out what the best teams are!!
Comments and suggestions please guys.

1 - Randomising is a good idea.
2 - Maybe a mix of both, have the top 10 allocated, but only twice or three times. Like the PC superleague.
3 - Agree, timetables work.
4 - Probably best to start a few weeks after launch, to give people time to get it and practise.
Keep up the good work mate.

the potential problem i can see is that i won't get my PES4 games finished in this league before 5 come out. Its going to be weird going between 4 and 5 to get this last league finished.

They shouldn't overlap by more than a week as Season 6 is due to end on the 27th.

1 - Stay as they are. Spent season after season trying to get to the Premier league. I wanna stay put :D
2 - I like using the teams that we have now. Lots of goals and players aren't always falling over. Xbox always has more lag IMO so less tumbly players always help.
3 - As PC league
4 - Your idea sounds fine - time for mucho friendlies. Its a whole new ball game gents :D
1. Stay as they are. I recall some people not liking the bigger leagues of a couple of seasons ago as there were quite a few one sided games.
2. Randomise the teams so there can only be one of each team per division. Quite tempted to suggest we ban the biggest 15 teams for more variety.
3. Timetables are good. We want committed players not someone who has to play 15 games in three nights.
4. The sooner the better for the new league in my opinion.
My suggestion.
- Finish the PES4 league.
- Give everyone a month to acclimatise to PES 5 (trust me, you will need it) and then start the PES 5 season.
- randomise the leagues as it is a totally different ball game.
1. Undecided. I'll think about it ;)
2. Vary it from season to season. First season, not sure we'll really know whose great and who isn't. I'd say let people choose their own team, duplicates allowed. Based on last season (in real life) I think Konami might have balanced a lot of the 'Top 10' teams out (Chelsea now very good, Liverpool won Champions League, Arsenal and Man Utd not the forces they once were, etc.) and we might have more variety.
2nd season, randomise the Top n teams. Then 3rd season, my personal fave, ban the top teams, as we're doing in the cup this season. More variety, which of course is the spice of life!
3. Good idea. More seasons! But at the same time, don't want it too regimental as we don't want to scare off new comers, or regulars with committments (although we have to have Matt.Wild deliberating over joining each and every season :D)
4. Sooner the better for me :)
I assume from this thread that you're happy to continue organising all this Stevie? If so bravo

Doing the PC and Xbox leagues takes a lot out of you. I want away from the Xbox leagues but just enjoy the game too damn much. I thought I could get away from the Xbox version by way of PES 5 but HMV then got me an uber cheap copy - damn you HMV! :D

I can imagine, I've managed to resist the PC league all year, but only just. Just don't have time for both :( , although that might change in the new year

Smiller - Like your point 2.
As for the timetables, they would be flexible to allow for holidays work commitments etc, but only if any absences are posted in advance.
And yes i'm more than happy to keep organising things. I might offload the cup competitions though, if anybodys interested in running them.
1. Not bothered - the cream always rises to the top :D
Although with a new game it could take me 10 seasons!
Opponents would still be evenly matched if it stayed the same I would think.
2. As is for team selection - top teams may be revised after a bit of playing.
2.5 How about "other" teams for the cup like now but having UEFA Cup style mini leagues e.g. 6 x groups of 4 or 5 (randomly drawn or seeded league wise), then a knockout so you get at least a few games with the weaker teams.
(Maybe a cup only week  ).
3. Anything - don't know how the PC one is done.
4. Anytime.

Anything suits me as long as I'm not too bad with the new version
How about adding who is in your league to MSN messenger, so you can arrange games a little more easily ?
Would love to do a World Cup comp as I missed it last time . :(

I can never be arsed logging in to msn. I prefer just to post in here when I'm available (24/7/365:D) and this would be fine if everyone made sure to check the thread

MSN's a good idea, but i wouldn't make it compulsory.
As Scott says, if players posted thier availablity in the thread there wouldn't be a problem arranging matches.
1. I would favour trying to stick people in divisions based on past performance, as I seem to recall there was a fair amount of players walking away with their (lower) leagues early in the league setup last time around. Putting the guys who have always been at the top in a low league would probably spoil it for some participants. It wouldn't need to be exact, as long as the league members agreed to accept their placing without any moans. Three up and three down (as last year) would soon sort things out.
2. I'm happy with random, although the top teams may need re-evaluating with the new game as zboniek has already stated.
3. I think your (steviep) ealier timetables for the leagues worked quite well - min no. of games played by whenever, etc. Exceptions allowed if the members state in good time that they are away, etc.
4. Yes, mid November seems fine, plenty of time for pre-season games.
Looking forward to it all again after my recent absence.
I cant use my PC & Xbox at the same time, so that rules MSN out for me.
1. I'm for randomising it for the first season, when we start PES5 there's gonna be a whole bunch of new faces entering the league that could be experts and you wouldnt want to start them in the bottom division. From Season 2 onwards, I'd like to divisions as it is now in season 6 of the PES4 season.
2. I'd go with how it is now, where you allocate people with a team from the top 10/12 sides.
3. I agree with your point on this, how you did it before worked well, that 40% had to be played by a ceratin date etc. And agree with the fact that those who dont play are banned from future seasons, unless they have a valid excuse.
4. I agree with Ono on this and say we dont start a league until November, but it doesnt bother me either way.
An idea about the scheduling of games.
If the leagues were smaller (say 10 per division) we could always play each other 4 times. There could also be a rule that prevents people playing the third and fourth game until after a certain date. This might prolong Scott's season.
I meant more MSN for an extra option, no big deal.

I would like to play 4 times. Dunno about restricting games though ;)

Trust the Scots amongst us to want to play 4 times!!!
I'm not keen on it myself, i'd rather have shorter seasons. People are less likely to get pull out if they're having a crap season.

1) Leagues stay as they are - last time when we played 2 big leagues I was very out of my depth in some of those matches whereas I know I can compete in League 1. It can be quite depressing to be the whipping boy and does pu some people off (Semps for example.)
2) Team allocation as is.
3) I don't mind putting a % of matches to be completed by a certain deadline as long as there is some leeway for good reasons.
4) End of November or a round then - although that does put completing a certain amount of matches at risk with the holiday season approaching...

Definitely a good idea to put deadlines for getting matches played but I don't think playing each other 4 times is a good idea. I think people will get bored if they have to play too many matches

DRAFT PLAN
1. The 1st season will start on Friday November 18th.
2. Each division will have approximately 10 teams, with players starting in the division that they're currently in (taking into account PES4 season 6 promotions / relegations). Any new players will be placed in the bottom division. I've decided against a random allocation because the divisions seem to be quite evenly matched at the moment.
3. For the 1st season, you can play with whatever team you like. This is so we can work out who the top teams are in PES 5. For season 2 we will use the format used in the last few season of PES 4, where the top 15 teams are randomly allocated etc. Then for season 3, the top 15 will be banned and 15 weaker teams will be used for the random allocation. If season 3 is a success, future seasons will alternate between the Season 2 & 3 formats.
I suggest the top 15 & weak 15 teams are picked by a committee rather than just myself.
4. There will be weekly deadlines set at the start of each season. Any holidays / work commitments will of course be taken into account as long as I'm informed in advance. Any player that does get removed from the league will have to sit out the following season and if they do re-join will be placed in the bottom division.
5. Cup comps will run alongside the league. We'll alternate between FA Cup & world cup style events.
I think that covers it.
I'll start a signup thread for the inaugral season next week.

A new recruit to the fold
New recruits are always good! I mentioned the Xbox league a while ago in the HMV Bargain thread, maybe once it's out some more advertising is needed Stevie? ;)
Your proposals are spot on, looking forward to it. Cheers as ever, and if you need any help with it let us know.
