As I reckon I'll be waiting a while for my set from Amazon to arrive, whats the packaging like?

Is it in the style of the Ultimate Toy Box/Brazil with amaray cases or the X-Files 'gatefold' cases?

Cheers

Its arrived!!

Packaging is like X-Files but with a Toy Story style clear plastic outer sleeve. The clear sleeve has the prom queen shot of Laura Palmer on it which when removed reveals the famous shot of her face after the plastic has been removed on the shore.

I can't speak highly enough of this package. The picture quality is simply stunning - I've never seen it looking this good. Colours are so warm and rich and not a blemish on the prints. It sounds amazing too. Beautiful 5.1 track - it is very subtle and obviously not banging and crashing all over the place but it really draws you in. Can't comment on the DTS track cause don't have the playback facility but the original 2channel mix is also included for the purists.

Menus are simple and easy to navigate with haunting music from the series and selected scenes playing behind them.

Extras are way better then I expected. Every episode has a commentary by either the director/writer/DoP/, optional introductions by The Log Lady which were written by Lynch for the Bravo channel re-runs, plus on screen script notes for each episode. These are basically details of all the deleted/unshot scenes which you can get details on by a 'follow-the white rabbit' feature or all at once via a timeline feature showing you where they would have been inserted into the episodes.

They is also a 22 min doco featuring all new interviews with cast and crew members talking about their experiences working with Lynch (watch out for Richard Br. A short (3min) lesson on how to talk backwards. A 15min interview with Mark Frost. A 10-min interview with the owner of the RR (Mar T) diner.

Best of all though is The Twin Peaks Directory which is basically a family/relationship tree of every major character which is clickable and links to other characters and features filmographies and biographies and other selected video postcards from some of the cast. Also included in this section are episode details (airdates etc) and 7 pages of production notes on the series.

All of these extras have been put together and shot by the boys behind 'Wrapped in Plastic' so it is real fan boy stuff with no promotional crap or any wasted footage. Its all fascinating stuff put together with real care and attention. It seems to be all shot on DV and gives a real feel of 'fly on the wayl' and genuine sense of catching up with the cast and finding out what they are all doing now and how the experience of being in the show has effected them. Indeed many of the i/v clips with the cast aren't even about the show at all but the actors themselves and their interests and life’s.

Rounding it off is a folded card/booklet with a printed interview with Sheryl Lee/episode breakdowns and chapter indexes and a printed round up of characters and summary of what happened in the pilot.

Only bad points would be the missing pilot (although this is well documented and is in no way Artisans fault), no subtitles and Lynch himself is nowhere to be seen although his presence is felt - there is so much talking about him and he has overseen the transfer and new soundtrack, so that is a minor quibble. And on a minor personal note, there is no interview with Sherilyn Fenn. However I have fallen in love with Sheryl Lee all over again - she looks stunning in her interviews.

I just hope they get a move on with Season 2 and put as much work into it as has gone into this one. It has been worth the wait.
