Hi there people.
Well in my opinion it's flawless, a masterpiece actually, by far the best film of the year. Just wodnering, did anyone not like it, or find any problems with it at ALL? If so, please post here... It'd be interesting to see what people didn't like about it! :):)

I agree. As an experience in the cinema, it was as fulfilling and enjoyable as I've had... whether it lives up to repeat viewings may be another matter. For now, movie of the year without question.
BTW, my girlfriends brother and his lady said that they thought it was 'boring' and 'stupid', and that the subtitles 'did her head in'. :brickwall:
Some people are just queueing for a mighty slap.

I'm glad you agree. And oh well, some people just have no style...
I liked it myself, but here are a few less favourable reviews:

I thought that the first 20 minutes or so were indeed flawless. I enjoyed the rest of the film as well, but I felt that it verged on the over-precious occasionally, as well as neglecting its more interesting characters at times.

I saw it recently and thought it was great although the print I saw was in pretty poor shape with the subtitles in the first reel being set so low that when there were two lines, the second line was halfway off the screen and then there was an audio fault (low frequency buzzing/humming noise) throughout the second half. Still, I thought it was a great film, lots of fun but didn't quite overtake Delicatessen as my favourite Jeunet film. As others have mentioned, maybe this was down to the lack of Caro on Amelie.

Just a quick question. Was one of the blokes in Amelie in the coffee shop also in Alien Ressurection as the bloke in the wheel chair? They looked so alike...

Dominique Pinnon (sp?) was in Amelie (the bloke with the girlfriend problem) and I'm pretty surehe may was in Alien Res - He is also the main character in Delicatessen.

I say the same thing -- the first half hour or so reminded me of Fight Club, and how the first half of it was so refreshingly original and completely sucks you in. But I felt my interest slightly waned towards the end -- I felt we needed to know more about her love interest -- we know virtually EVERYTHING about Amelie herself, but i personally would have liked to found out more about the male she ends up chasing and why he's the only one for her. So i never really got involved with the love story aspect.
But just like a 2nd viewing with Fight Club, i think i'll find the 2nd half of Amelie to be "Flawless".
It's certainly one hell of an original experience, and is a must-see.
Ps -- why do subtitles annoy some people so much ?? :( force them to watch 50 dubbed HK films, then make them watch them again subtitled, and hopefully they'll see the light!!
Well at long last I finally got to see it. I'm very glad I did was one of the most interesting films I've seen for a long time, one reason being that I came out of the cinema being unable to compare it to anything which I think is always a good thing. I may have to see Delicatessen and City of the Lost Children now.
I really like the bit where she goes thru what could have happened to the guy when he's 10 minutes late & when she phoned up the Adult shop :D Also I've got to admit that I didn't figure out that the guy who kept leaving his photo around was the repair man. Anyone guess this?

Dominique Pinon has indeed appeared in all four of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's features and at least one of his shorts (<I>Foutaises</I>). He also made a memorable appearance in <I>Diva</I>, and pops up in the full version of <I>Betty Blue</I> in an uncredited cameo.

I actually enjoyed this film enough to watch it twice (and without falling asleep during either viewing - quite an achievement for me recently).
Only thing "wrong" with it is that it's French :D But even that doesn't detract from it being a good film, if not the best I've seen this year...
Saw this last night (thought the g/f and I were going to be only ones in the cinema at one point!).
I loved the first 20 minuted but I am not too sure about the rest. Perhaps on a second watch I will like it better. Overall I didn't think it lived up to my expectations (but then, do films ever?).

I found Amelie quite enjoyable- not flawless, or the best recent film, but certainly good entertainment.
I am interested by the fact that everyone finds it a very uplifting, happy film. Personally I thought there was a sadder undertone. There were suggestions that her life is going nowhere (the black and white TV bits), but had anything changed near the end? She had supposedly found "love", but since they were only together for around five minutes of the film, when you consider their histories is it going to last?
Maybe that is just good old pessimistic me though... :)
