I've just had my dad on the phone...

He claims Dixons are advertising a Matsui DVD player for 70 quid. Those are the only details he gave me. Anyway, he came to me as he considers me an expert in these things (god knows why).

Does anyone know

a) what on earth he's talking about?
b) whether the machine's any cop or not?

He's not bothered about multi-region playback, wouldn't know macrovision if it bit him on the arse, and I supsect if he got one, it'd be used something like once a month.

Is there any reason why I should tell him not to get one? Remember that if he does get one, he'll stop asking me for DVD player buying advice, which would be nice. However, it does mean he'll go back to pestering me about finding him an external CDRW drive.

Thanks chaps.

There are two reasons not to buy this:

1) It is from Dixons
2) It is a Matsui.

I presume it is the DV110. When this player came out it actually received some quite good reviews and for a price of £70 you can't really go wrong. It can be handset hacked and will do the business as a DVD player. Make sure it's one of the newer batches cos the old ones had audio problems when changing chapters on certain discs.

If its the advert I saw, then you needed to spend (I think) £200 on a TV to get it for this price
