a few to many beers tonight......
but after so many years, still got to say the best female vocalist i've ever heard; can bring me to tears
Only songs to hit me hard are some of hers and johnny cash's "hurt"

Gotta agree, I love her stuff - her leaving Throwing Muses coincided with their downturn, and Belly were and are still awesome. Not quite so keen on her solo stuff, though I've not got her latest.

The Muses/breeders/Belly years were deffinatly her best years. Her solo work is sadly very dull.

Belly 'Star' was one of the first albums I got hooked on. Tanya has a fab voice!

Beautysleep is a pretty good album though, The Storm is the standout track for me, sounds like it wouldn't be out of place on a Belly album
Kudos for getting drunk and sharing your love for Tanya with us, my friend !
Before we underestimate her (continuing) genius, let us not forget this is the woman who gave us 'Reel', 'River' and the loony 'Dragonhead' while playing her part in the finest band of all time. She gave us two bewitching Belly albums and some awesome gigs on their non-stop four year tour, including stadiums on REM's UK 'Monster' tour, which she treated with her typical wry disregard. (Is is just me, or does it seem like another universe in which bands like Magnapop and Belly opened for a mega-band like REM ? Surely today's vanilla tastes just wouldn't allow it ? At B'ham Institute on the 'King' tour someone shouted "Tanya, B'ham loves you !" She just shook her head and Gail responded with "Don't be so queer !")
Solo, her first two albums are worthy of our love too. 'Sliding and Diving', 'Darkside' ... she can do lithe pop as well as she can grind out the doomy guitar swirls. And I can only applaud her latest incarnation as Emmylou Harris with a Galaxie 500 penchant. Shame on you doubters ! She will dazzle for a long time yet ! :)

The Storm is an amazing track. Very moving.

I probably met you at a few of them - I must have seen Belly about 20 times during the 90s. They were always great live and very nice and generous (cheers for the beer and Smarties at Sheffield Tanya http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/party/party0012.gif )

Hmm, maybe. Magnapop as support is understandable (and were great, of course) as if REM have always been one thing it's loyal to their friends. And as for bands like Belly, well, there aren't any bands as good as them around these days. It'd be all dreary types like Keane and Snow Patrol...
this is slightly off topic, but Kristin Hersh is playing a couple of gigs in November, one all Throwing Muses stuff, one all solo stuff.
Beautysleep is a pretty good album though...
I'd say it's more than that; it has some of her most beautiful songs on it. Someone who dismisses her solo career as very dull hasn't given it much of a chance.
