After forgetting about this classic for so long (and because it scared me as a kid!) I've decided I'd like to get this on DVD. As far as I can see there is no r2 and a bare-bones R1. Are there any plans to release this film in a Special Edition or anything?
Thanx :)
I'm not aware of an SE in the works, I'd be surprised if there wasn't sometime in the future.
Be aware of the R1 DVD, from www.imdb.com :

This version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) is censored. Disney altered the scene near the beginning where Baby Herman dips down below a woman's skirt while raising his hand. In this version the arm going up has been removed and a new arm added, staying right at his side.
If you want an uncensored version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) we recommend to try to find one of the laserdisc editions.

I thought that there were other changes, but I can't remember offhand.
I found it quite funny that I did a search for the string "Roger Rabbit" and the two results that came up were the film and Roger Moore ! :D ;)

I seem to remember something about Jessica Rabbit not having any underwear on and possibly having pubic hair.
Nothing mentioned on Melon Farmers but go to http://forums.dvdreview.com/msgboard/ and do a search on Roger rabbit

It was when they have a car crash and she is spinning round iirc, you need to pause to see though :p

Aaahh....fond memories!
A couple of years back I set up a petition to get a Special Edition released - to no avail :(
There's still hope (this coming from the person STILL convinced that there'll be a Ghostbusters 2 Special Edition DVD and a third Ghostbusters film  )
As far as I know, there's no plans for a Special Edition, but I'd say we'll see one eventually. Disney/Buena Vista have started to re-visit some of their earlier DVD releases with improved versions.
Still, there's been nothing official or even rumoured TMK, so if you want the film now, go with the R1. It is non-anamorphic but looks reasonably good... certainly better than the viewed-10,000-times rental VHS tapes I'd seen in the past. :)
I hate the fact that it's censored, but the cuts are minor, and after wanting a copy for so many years, I was willing to forgive it. (I didn't have much choice anyway, since I didn't realise it was cut until after I bought it. ;)) It's worth noting that no video release of this film is completely uncut- even the pre-DVD releases have all had at least one or two cuts from the original theatrical release (e.g, the removal of Michael Eisner's home phone number from the wall of a public restroom).

Thanx for the replies :)
Shame there's no SE planned, but plain simple r1 it is then :)
