ITs a decent software player but could be better. bad points are low sound when playing through two channel output and the noticeable artifacts. at the end of the day its not worth buying just for the DVD player.

i've connected mine to my 43" Toshiba Rear Projection - and really i had low expectations, but quite honestly, it's not half bad at all for playing DVDs. I got a Blaze scart Lead, which has a switch on it to choose between DVD and GAME. I'm assuming flicking DVD gets rid of the Green Screen effect -- therefore i'm watching a RGB output -- because it certainly looks like it.

Comparing with 2 standalone Pioneer players, you can notice the PS2 is very slightly inferior (picture wise), but really only if you're someone who pays very attention to that stuff. If you're just your average DVD watcher, then you'll be more than happy with the picture quality.

You'll need to buy a DVD remote Control, and buy Region X to make your player Region Free, and it also gets rid of green screen for standard scart cables.

As for Sound, i've not tried out 2channel output, but as far as the Digital output is concerned, the sound quality is excellent.

In my opinion the only thing missing, is an LCD display or an option to see Running Time -- the latter i think is solved with the Official Sony Remote Control which upgrades the DVD playback software.

check out www.reserve.co.uk for some good bundles. I paid 269 for console, extra official pad, GT3, official memory card, DVD remote Control and Blaze Scart Lead -- which is an excellent deal :)
