I've just recorded the most kick ass rock and roll punk album ever. It's an amazing triumph of sheer of rock and roll energy over ability. It's compressed and limited within an inch of it's life and only has two volumes - off or 0db (digital) there is no louder CD, (take care when playing).

I must share this power with the world, it would be unfair not to.

Anyway I've been out of the biz a while and don't know what kick ass record labels are out there these days that deal in some of the dirtier extreme end of garage punk rock.

Definitely give 'Captains of Industry' a buzz, as it sounds like it would be their thing...

Domino Records, they've suddenly discovered they like pop/rock/punk*. You may even see Lou Barlow there as well..

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to place the word POPULAR infront of those 3 words.

Are they still going? I think they dicovered punk rock a long time ago "royal trux" were signed to them.

Yes those bitches are on the list!

Domino are too commercial for what it sounds like youve just recorded - i'd love to hear some of it.

I got a promo from the Cherryade label. Their first release is a very loud record by Steveless. You could try them.

Are the files already stored on your computer?

If so convert them to mp3 and attach them to an email :)

No. They are on a CD or on the hard drive in my studio.

Ooh, I wouldn't mind having a listen either. Can't beat a bit of compression abuse to make your ears bleed :)

Done.

I put three on there, I hope it all works and everything.

Oh balls I think I've messed it all up. I can only send about 3meg so the ones I have sent will bounce back I expect.

I will zip some up and send again.

Would there be a problem doing that?

edit - gahhhh zipping does not make them nearly small enough.

I might just have to send the shortest songs.

I will see whats under 3megs.

 love it!!!

Rock N Roll Aint Ever Gonna Die sounds like the ******* distorted, deformed child of Summertime Blues to me

FLCL

What! You managed to get them? Did you get all three?

The IT people said they would get bounced back and have expanded how much I can send but I shouldn't have been able to get three songs on.

LouBarlow

Received all 3 and they are complete

Love the production...distorted to the max...being an mp3 adds to the experience I think, as it makes it sound more 'compressed' - great fun :D

Ah yes but thats a different kind of compression (at least I don't think it mucks with dynamic range).

If MP3 does compress dynamic range there wouldn't be able to do much more anyway as all the songs go from -20db straight to 0db and stay there for the duration.

It actualy sounds pretty much the same as the CD to me.

Thanks for the input.
Glad you like it.

Can someone send the tunes to me as well please.

Sounds like my sort of thing!

Try Fantastic Plastic (http://www.fantasticplastic.co.uk/)

Everything that comes from them usually comes in liqourice vinyl pizza form.

All good.

or Tsk Tsk (http://www.tsktskrecords.com) They have some pretty good noise merchants.

OR!

Southern Records Europe (http://www.southern.net/southern/)

I would try Southern first.

Forgot about these dudes. (http://www.artrocker.com/contact.html)

They're the most receptive bunch for the type of music that you're doing.

Send your demos to them and they WILL have a listen to them.

Thanks I'll send some copies out as soon as I can think of a damn name. I thought I would have managed that by now, but it seems I'm stumped.

Suggestions welcome.

Cheers for the tunes.

Raw and brutal are words that come to mind. Goodstuff!

Sounds like you're the ******* child of Motorhead and Guitar Wolf.

Loudness

It might be worth saying that it's usually standard practice in the mastering stage to limit to -0.1db rather than full out 0db, as some equipment read 0db as 'over'.

Pretty good songs though. Is this all being played live (as in, real people and real instruments)?

LouBarlow
12-10-2005, 18:28
I almost blew my headphones off when I played them on my ipod

FLCL

Screw the pussy ass 'over' signals, I'm sick of listening to CDs that are mastered too low so I can't blow my ears off on my walkman.

I was told it was -4db, but that is really MOR!

Sneeka - Yes it is played live with real instruments but unfortunately I only have a part time band so I recorded the full 10 songs myself one instrument at a time. Sadly I suppose it is not technically 'live' in that sence, I hope that this is not too much of a let down.

and

JDdomain - I was lucky enough to meet Seji and the gang once (before Billy died) so maybe some of their raw power rubbed off. They appear to share my vision of what punk rock is all about and I really respect their attitude.

Oh and thanks again for the links, they look really good.

Well it certainly sounded pretty 'live band'ish. So.. nice job

I agree - can't believe it's not tbh...if anything, the musical talent on show, is a little *too* good for the genre it belongs in :D

It works in the same way as the proper loud mix of Raw Power to my ears, in terms of 'loudness', but I have no technical knowledge of the subject whatsoever.

But if you know what the real 'raw power' mix means then you don't need to know anything else.

Unless you want to be a sound engineer.

I tried to make sure I was as drunk as possible and do everything in one take in the performance.

Sadly I'm a little drunk now as my evening class has been cancelled (so rock and roll having an evening class) so I hope you don't mind me saying 'I love you guys and thanks for your kind words' <puts his arms around them all and slightly embarrasses them>

(Boy am I gonna have top put this though the spell check)(s436
