R2 NTSC DVD - Will it play OK an an unmodded player?

Probably a dense question, but ...

Would a Region 2 NTSC DVD play ok on a normal unmodified Region 2 player? I'm not sure if unmodified players could handle this or not.

Yes the region code is not an issue. Most DVD players (European Models) have both PAL and NTSC circuitry. What model is yours? It also depends on whether your TV can handle an NTSC signal.
