View Full Version : Princess Mononoke - Which Region?

I'm sure this has been covered here before, but as I can't use the Search engine and Rewind is also on the blink at the moment, could somebody tell me which is the best version of Princess Mononoke - R1 or R2?

I've had a look on Play and they have the R1 running time at 2 hours 30 mins approx, while the R2 running time is listed at 2 hours 8 mins!

I'm crap at doing the math for the Pal speed up, but 22 minutes does seem a little bit much. Is the R2 cut at all?

Any info would be much appreciated.

R1 is the way to go. Trust me.

R2 isn't cut, but it misses out on the literal subs.

Or you could go for the r2 3 disc-set Japanese version which AFAIK has the literal and subtitles included. As well as about 10 different languages too :D

The R2 Jap also has a slightly better picture than the R1 (9/10 for the R1, 10/10 for the R2 Jap)...i'm doing a comparison review of R1 vs R2 Jap for DVDTimes at the moment....look out for it in the near future

Looks like the R1 for me, so far, as the R2 Japanese will be a bit tricky for me to order. I'll wait for your review before I decide, kanedaa, as I won't be buying this 'till early in the new year now - got to watch the pennies for Xmas! :D

I believe the Portuguese r2 version has some extras that aren't on the UK or US versions.

god I'm slow! Comparison review will be up this week some time (Wednesday at the latest)....

ereiamjh mention of the Portugese release reminds me that the French R2 due early 2002 is set to include extras not found on the UK R2 or the R1 versions...Miyazaki is very popular in France so they're doing something special apparently.

Not sure really - I'd say the possibility of seeing English subs on it are pretty much zero though :(

:D I'm afraid things have been a little slow lately and all I'll say is you should see the comparison before Xmas....so next Monday at the latest but I'm aiming for the weekend. I really ought to stop posting 'review dates' :( cos I never ever meet them!

On another note, I just read your first message correctly and Play have the R1 running time incorrect, it is infact 2hr 14mins which with the PAL speedup makes the PAL running time correct.

Look out for a string of Miyazaki comparisons though between now and Monday ;)
