Huge thank-you to ran1gers for some thumb blistering encounters and giving my new underdogs Man City a run out. Of course I was outclassed by the former champions, but proved we may be able to cause a few shocks next season  Managed my first ever win against him  even if it was score and backs to the wall for 70 mins

Frustration is my new tactic :n0rty:

Wouldnt it be a good idea if one season we removed the 10 best sides and played without the super teams? Just a thought

scottwilson82

Yeah cheers for the games mate  There was some good defending in that win and a lot of frustration for me. I don't think I've ever played man city before on live so it made a nice change.

Has been suggested in the past by Sheepking and myself to name but two, but never been much support for it :(

Some of the best matches I've played on live are when using the Random button to pick teams, and end up with Iran v China or similar. :)

I don't mind playing with lesser teams, it happens quite often in the PC league, and it does make you a better player.

Once the season gets underway, I'll start a discussion thread to decide what we're going to do with PES 5. We'll see how much support we'll get for ideas like this.

I would certainly be up for playing with the diddy* teams - would hopefully be a 'great leveller' (in true footie-speak). I wanted a re-draw on Galatasaray since I don't want humped by Real Madrid/Barca/Milan, etc.

*diddy (di-day): Glaswegian vernacular word meaning mammary. Often used to describe football teams of poor standing; see East Stirlingshire, Elgin, Partick Thistle and (currently) Rangers ( ;) ScottWilson82   )

Bit late in the day now, but in my view it'd be best to do it all without the top n teams for this final season. I personally wouldn't want to do it for the first few seasons of Pro Evo 5, as I'd like to see how good the good teams are in that.

But as we've already done the first draw then maybe the cup is the way to go.

If we were allowed to pick our own how would we agree which are non-top teams? Should we come up with a selection of teams that can not be picked or just say this is the team you will be?

I don't mind either way, just had to play a game as Norwich this afternoon and it was very hard going.

Matt.Wild
25-09-2005, 19:32
Its fairly obvious which are the top teams in the game IMO. Any of the top half a dozen teams in each of the real leagues really. A bonefide list may help but its fair straightforward which teams will give someone a major advantage and are a top team...

Man Utd! Happy with the quality, just wish it wasn't them!

Don't think any of us can argue with that selection. Everyone got what I'd consider one of the top teams. Although the Kronik/Inter combo looks intimidating, and after suffering Roma last season, I think TheDaddy probably came off worst, although I think that was me as much as the team, we didn't get on.

And except Proudparents, but that's self inflicted!

Could I just make two points to my fellow Premiershippers.

As Barca - I'm sure you're all experienced players, but they have two very similar strips, so please select a light coloured shirt home & away.
Have had a couple of practice games and still get some opponents selecting similar strips!

Also, forgive my slowness in selecting the team setup as I've found they differ somewhat from the non-live patched version and a few changes have to be made

bomb down the wing with Martins (who is very fast) and cross for Adriano. Inter seem to be a very quick team with the ball. That's the theory at least!

2 very different sides, you played very classy with Barcelona and passed it around and some nice fancy play. Rather than Kev Keegan's Man City, I adopt the Stu Pearce Man City Approach

Just had to try and frustrate you and catch you on the break, all the games were very tight, really pleased the boys in blue and handle themselves with the big teams.

Juventus 1 - 1 Man City

A very very nervous start for both teams who didnt want to lose any points on their opening games of the season. We have a history of thrilling encounters and this was no exception.

Both games were end to end stuff and could have gone either way, but to be honest I think it would of ended of tears and heartbreak if either side would have won a game here.

2 draws was the only possible outcome here, PHEW! :gag:

What a couple of great counter attacking games! End-to-end stuff and loads of chances which were mostly taken.

Started the first game with a goal but got caught out by two very good counter attacking moves. My back four are not as quick as the pools wingers and strikers and got caught 2-on-1 most of the game.

The second game I thought was going to go the same but I tried to help out the back four from midfield and it worked a treat.

Looks like its gonna be a close league, thanks for the games and good luck for the rest!

Thanks mate. Both games were both quite tight in the middle of the park, and apologies for my occasionally "erratic" tackling. That two-footer from behind toward the end was a mistake, as I thought I was contolling the other man. :suspect:

Great, close games there mate, very tense.

Both could have gone either way, the 2nd game was turned by the dodgy penalty, although I was quite please with the chip for the second goal :D Your immediate reply made it very tense, I concede far too many goals straight from kick off.

Cheers for the games matey, I tried to attack both games which didn't pay off. Your Ryan Giggs runs were the beating of me on the first. My defence just seem to leave him go at will and you always found someone with your crosses.

I made sure I had someone on him in the second game which made it harder for him to get through. Man I screamed when the ref gave a well dodgy penalty! I just didn't even bother saving it coz I knew you'd score. I just didn't take all my chances to score when I pressurised and it was too late in the end.

Thanks again!

Championship results from last night:

Inter 4 - 1 Man City
Man City 2 - 2 Inter

I have to admire Grateful Ghoul for playing as City and tend to agree with all those that want future leagues to exclude the top 15 teams. With Rangers having an official license in Pro Evo 5 I think I know which team I want to be.

Ian I salute you my friend

I have managed to get City to be quite solid at the back but that first game I could not do anything at all, you knocked the stuffing out of me
Back to my gaff, and the boys showed a better account for themselves

Only 3 points from 4 games, is a little worrying but we will be taking a few scalps this season.......errmm I hope so anyway.

Yeah, you did well in the second game. These were 2 such contrasting games though. 1st game I was gutted to walk off with just 2-0 as I was all over you. 2nd game was totally different and you should have won by more. When I sneaked a goal to get to 2-1 and you missed the pen I saw a glimmer of hope but the players were a shambles. What was my guy doing sliding in from 10 yards out to give away the pen? Then Buffon decides to go runaround leaving an empty goal too!! AAAAAAaaargghhhhh!!!!

Was delighted with the last minute pen in game 1 as I reckon I deserved a draw but in game 2 my strikers just couldn't hit a coo's arse with banjo despite having loads of chances whereas Saha was excellent.

Sorry about the lag, don't usually have problems there. BB connection is getting upgraded to 4MB very soon so that should eliminate any lag issues.

Second game was very tight. I couldn't seem to score another goal and knew I couldn't keep you out for 90 minutes. Had to laugh at the Baros penalty - it hit the crossbar and seemed to travel upwards for ages before my keeper caught the ball.

Couple of good -if worrying, for me - friendlies last night, Ghoul.

Hi Mate

Very very sorry for not being around but my 2 year old daughter has been diagnosed with serious illness and have been at the hospital all week.

I usually play after 10pm but have been sleeping at the hospital so for the next week or so, I will be around late morning/afternoon (including the weekend).

Keep a lookout for me and we will play our games, hope they are as entertaining as our friendlies! for some reason I thought you were in the Premier league.

What a set of games mate  In the first half of that first game I was absolutley gutted that I was 3 - 1 down in a half where I thought I'd had the better of the play, and thought it was gonna cost me dear when we started that first half and you pretty much were on the attack for the first 20 minutes of the second. I always use to see you as my boogy team (before last season ;)) and after 3 - 1 down it mnade perfect sense. Over the moon that I managed to pull it back with an injury time equaliser, in a match I thought I didnt deserve to lose.

As for the second, we pretty much matched one another, and at 3 - 1 down I thought you were gonna do a me and pull it back, but it wasnt to be. :p  Your one of those fella's thats lethal with crosses and I just cant cope with them!

Argh, can't believe I let that first game slip. I needed to put that 4th goal in but it just wouldn't happen. 2nd game was yours all the way, couldn't keep up.

I don't usually play with wingers as it can be hit and miss (as those matches show) but since last season with Roma I've got into the habit, plus Giggs is so good there! Will revert back to a more conventional formation in Pro Evo 5 I think.

Well played mate, think we're probably even over the seasons now :D Cheers

Good games mate, both of them quite tense. First game, I thought I was doing well in the first half, but then you changed your tactics at half time and put me under loads of pressure. I though a draw was probably fair overall.

The second game, was equally tight for the first 70 mins, and then I managed to sneak ahead, and your defenders seem to go walk about for the last 15 mins. The score definitely did not reflect the game though.

I'll let Scott post the scores. Couldn't believe the 1st game - had mucho chances and couldn't get them in. Esp annoying was a shot against the post with an open goal and then a header off the line. Each time he did this, he'd go straight up the other end and score  Should have at least drawn this.

2nd game, i penned him in for the whole 1st half only for him to score on the stroke of half time. 2nd half I piled players forward and he ripped me apart with neat chips and lobs and the like on the break.

I'm looking just a tad rusty

Well played

Man City (Grateful Ghoul) 1 - 2 (Gunner) Dortmund
Dortmund 0 - 0 Man C

First game was an end to end affair with a good goal from SWP for Man City, who seemed to shread my defence with every through ball. Thankfully got a double to snatch the points.
Second game I just could not score, neither could City. I think there was about 20 shots in total, and over half of those were on target. Frustrating!

I seem to be struggling at home recently, but better away?!

Well played mate and good games.

I think the man mountain you refer to is Koeller - a legend in the PC league because of his abilty to bulldoze defences with his height and strength.

He's like Peter Crouch on steroids. Made my centre backs look tiny and doesn't even have to jump to head the ball. I think he is appearing as Hagrid's brother in the next Harry Potter.

Still cannot believe I lost those games last nite and lost so heavily :(

It’s often said that games are close and the scores don’t reflect this – in this case it was 100% genuine. We had equal possession and similar shot tallies. Indeed, in the 1st game his keeper was twice beaten and twice it was stopped on the line by the post or the player. If those had gone in, we’d be looking at different set of results.

Ho hum :D

First game I was chasing from the off. An early og giving me the worst possible start, then Cissis cropped up with a second. Losing 2-0 at half time. Second half I managed 2 goals to bring it level, only for Liverpool to score again to put mr behind 3-2. Then with the last kick of the game, a rocket from got me the draw.

Second game I was just finding gaps in Liverpools defence with my many forwards and thankfully they had their shooting boots on.
