just been offered this by a friend for £80.00, is it worth the money, or should i save and get something better?

Its for a canon 350D

I personally would save the money.

If it's the same one that I have. It's ok but not great as it can get a bit soft towards the telephoto end. It'll also have a hard time focusing in low light. I think it also has some CA at the 300mm.

It's a good lens for £80. It's not as sharp as some, but I was pleased with mine when I had one with my 300D.

I kinda think any telephoto in that price-bracket is going to have its limitations. IIRC they're about twice that new (on the high street).

If its in good condition, and you're happy with the quality, then it seems like a pretty decent price for that zoom lens (retails for about £170). Its not regarded as an very good lens (bit soft past 200mm apparently), but it'll give you that extra reach. Check it out first, and decide yourself. At that price, should you decide to sell on, then you won't get any problems getting back what you paid for it.
