Hi All,

I haven't posted here before, but I thought I would mention a piece of software I bought today. If it's been mentioned before, sorry. :)

Anyway, ProShow Gold. In a nutshell allows you to create some pretty amazing slideshows of your photo's and burn them to a DVD, in a web format, Screen Saver etc....

I downloaded the free trial, and I was so impressed I bought the company, er I mean the program. :)

I found it quite easy to use and managed to get some levely results quite quickly. It's just been reviews in the October editon of Digital Photography and got a big thumbs up there also. Website here (http://www.photodex.com/products/proshowgold) if anyone is interested.

Do you have any connection with this company ?

Nope, I signed up here a couple of days ago after someone pointed me here from another forum. I believe GreyJackal will vouch for me as he's known me for some time. :)

I just think it's a cool program, after re-reading my post I guess it does come across like an ad for it. I actually work for an IT Support company in sunny Northampton ... :)

Yeah, he's kosher.

Well, actually, I dunno about THAT, but he's certainly got bugger all to do with whatever it is he's pimping :D

Thanks guys. From what I have read on here so far it looks like a very useful place for good info & tips.

Myself & my wife are quite keen amateurs and hope to learn much more about all this lark. We got married recently and took the unusual step of asking for Jessops vouchers as wedding gifts.

So a huge number of voucers later, we are now the proud owners of some lovely Nikon kit (D50, Coolpix 7900, 18-70mm DX, 70-300mm ED ) plus quite a few other accessories. I price matched the lot and saved about 500 quid as well, the manager of our local Jessops was sick when I pulled out a huge wad of vouchers as the deal was already made at that point. :)

A man of taste and a connoisseur of quality.

Welcome.

That's a surprisingly great idea for wedding presents and congrats for finding an very understanding wife too (a rarity ;) ). Welcome and don't be afraid to start posting photos for critique 'cos we have different threads for different themes (though the "amature wife's photo thread" is Mod view only ;) )

Jon

ps nice choice in Nikon. :D

There's a test report in the October edition of Digital Photo ( yeah, I know, it's a bit lightweight ! ), comparing this ( Proshow Gold ) with a couple of other packages.

Heh, well thanks for the welcome, and guess what, it was her idea to get Jessops vouchers. :)

I've posted a photo to the montly compo, not a very good one, but it's the only nightime landscape one I could find since we got our new camera.

We just did a deal with my dad yesterday, and now we have a D100 as well as the D50, plus a 1GB Sandisk Extreme III card and an old Gitso tripod, and all for the princely sum of 400 quid. :)

Do you mean it's not very well regarded as a magazine PKR? I have bought a few copies of it now, and I have been impressed with it so far. It's where I first read about Proshow gold.

Welcome DM. Personally I found Digital Photo very useful when I started shooting digital as the 'darkroom' side was all new to me, however, I now found the magazine rather repetitive. I now prefer either Practical Photography or Photography Monthly.

I think there was a thread about which magazines that people liked. If you're interested it might be worth having a search. :)

Yeah I found that thanks Sam. I suppose what magazine's people like / find useful is always going to be a subjective thing.

Not really. It's fine - I do buy it - but I think the articles lack depth. Good groundings in photoshop in the video tutorials but they do get repetitive as Sam says.

I quite liked the now defunct 'Digital Photo effects' and I've recently subscribed to 'Digital Camera' ( partly to get a free camera bag for my youngest who is now toting around one of my old Nikon FEs and a few lenses ).

I like your photo, it's sharp and there's a lot of colour (which you don't normally get with nighttime photography).
