View Full Version : Connecting PC TV-out to RGB scart - is there a way?

It is getting a bit tiresome having to select my S-Video or component in AV extention whenever I switch my TV on (via hard button or remote) :(

Is there a cable from SVGA to RGB scart or S-Video to RGB scart, as it seems the only way for my TV to auto switch to my Media Centre PC is to have it hooked up to the RGB scart socket.

Does anybody have experience of this?

Would be grateful for any pointers please.

TIA

You can easily get an s-video to scart cable but it probably wont auto switch as, IIRCm this requires pin 8 to have the correct voltage applied.

You can take a look at AVForums (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136811&highlight=scart) If you use this cable you will get a far better picture in true w/s but again I don't think you'll get auto switching

This is the worry I had - no auto switching. It is becoming an increasing pain, even from the TV in standby and a macro programmed into my pronto to kick the channel to the correct AV, there seems to be some kind of differential after the TV is in standby for over half an hour, negating my macro.

You will have a problem if you have other equipment connected and powered on at the same time. If you have the other stuff in standby does your macro work ok?

The other thing you could do is look into the possiblity of supplying your own 12V suply to pin 8. Check the pin and the voltage before you wire anything up! My memory of such things is notoriously bad! Pin 8 may be w/s switching! I'm no expert!

This (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/satellite/scart/) may help you! It only served to confuse me!

Cheers for that Dave, it messes with your head, doesn't it? :D

The macro thing - a bit odd really, let me explain....

My TV (Toshiba 36ZP18P) switches to standy and I have programmed a macro to switch back on with a couple of button presses programmed in for the AV selector. This works just fine..... until the TV has been on standby for over half an hour, then the macro just does not work! I have checked the manual, called Toshiba (hopeless) and have no idea how to stop this happening. After the half hour, the TV only goes to the RF signal, even via the macro.

Doing my head in this is :brickwall

Are you switching TV on before commands to AV selector? Maybe after a certain time the Tosh defaults to a certain input/channel or something rather than last selected. I can't see a problem with a TV ON, AV Selector switch, TV INPUT select macro. On my Tosh I have "1" as my 1st step in any macro to force input to BBC1 before cycling through the INPUTs the correct number of times for the specific device. Never fails.

The macro is programmed as this:

TV ON
Delay 0.5
AV select
Delay 0.5
AV select

This works fine if the TV has been on standby for less than the half hour, as stated.

I will check when I get home later if the Tosh defaults to a specific channel after the half hour - I can definitely tell you that the standby light on the front panel switches off after this time.

May give your method of switching to channel 1 first a go later steford.

What about a longer delay maybe the tv takes longer to wake up after moretime has passed

Sounds reasonable  will give that a try later!

Are the AV select commands hitting your AV switch or the Tosh? If your problem is lack of auto switching then won't you need to fire of some Toshiba INPUT commands to get to the correct s-vid/component in?
