View Full Version : Photo of the Week Part 8 - Submit your entries.

The Rules
You'll have until midnight Wednesday 28th September to submit to me via email your entry. Only one entry per person although you can change it until the deadline should you wish to do so. Please keep the size down to under 200kb otherwise my hosting patience and inbox will creak under the strain.
The photograph must be taken between 00:01am Thursday 22nd September and the closing time.
No restrictions on format or technique, try to be original.
Please submit exif data with the picture for the curious among us.
Important! - Please title your picture with a brief description for ease of voting and let me know who it's coming from (your forum username)
On Thursday I will upload and post all entries with anonymity. You will then have until midnight Wednesday 5th October to submit the following week's entries and vote on the pictures on display.
The winner of the voting will have the pleasure of hosting the following week's competition.
No voting for yourself!

Actually, this brought up a valid point. I had been listing everyones images in the order I recieved them, then adding their names to the list above. When I upload the images they would have been in the same order as the list above. So I've scrambled them around now to preserve some anonymity (sp?) and No, Boink is no longer No1... :thumbs:
Got my trusty old T70 out again at the weekend and have got the photos back from Boots so will sort an entry out tonight.

My first SLR was the T70 (still got it - along with a wide angle and 50mm lens), used to send the ex nuts asking her to keep a fixed grin whilst I swapped lenses :lol:
Tempted to get some FD lenses off Ebay for this...

Quick question about the exif data. I am still a n00b when it comes to digi SLR's. I realised that the data is embedded into the JPG's I have been taking with my camera, is that all that is required, or should I be extracting the info with some utility and prociding it seperatly? I don't know the standard way 'packaging' the data is.

So ... anyone? I have the Exif reader program as recommended, but I'd still like to know the form the data is usually submitted in if anyone would oblige ...
In the photo itself, just certain details selected and posted, saved as some form of text file?

3 options Dom
1) Make sure the Exif data is retained in the copy you send in. The comp runner can then extract it themselves.
2) Extract it yourself and just include the details in your email (ISO, shutter speed, aperture are about the only really pertinent things in my opinion)
3) This is my favoured method - don't bother :D If someone asks, I'll look it up.
I copy the Exif from the reader to the clipboard and paste it into the email. That way, the host has all the info should there be any controversy about dates or whatever.
