Hi, HDTV prices seem to be dropping drastically in America, with 50" Widescreen HDTV's as cheap as $2000 (£1600). I'm looking to purchase one, the obvious problem would be shipping it over here. The other problem would be the fact that these TV's use the American power supply system, would using a converter be safe on a TV ??

If anyone can help/give advice I'd appreciate it. Would be great if I could find somewhere which sells these either UK based or American based and willing to ship to here.

Oh btw are HDTV's capable of outputting both NTSC and PAL signals ? If only NTSC then thats gonna screw up any standard broadcasts over here right ?

Thanks.

For those wondering, the reason I asked for an company which gets its supplies from America is because HDTV's generally cost £10,000 in this country which is absurd.

How the hell would a HD-TV work in the UK?

Well if I'm not wrong a HDTV is backward compatable with standard "old" broadcasts as long as it supports the signal (PAL or NTSC).

If you buy from the states it is very unlikely to support PAL.

AFAIK there is no HDTV software available to buy.

Plus we may never get HDTV in the UK, and if we do it will probably be different from the US version.

And shipping a big telly from the states will cost a LOT of money plus you have VAT to add on top of the cost.

I'd rather spend the money on a big plasma TV...

Yup I hear ya. I guess I'll get a standard rear projection widescreen set. I have about £1500 to spend, any suggestions ? So far I'm liking the Toshiba 40PW13B which is about £1100, any other recommendations ? I need the TV to suppport PAL+NTSC at 50/60Hz for DVD's and my PS2.

Thanks for the help/advice ;-)
