I've more or less bought my Christmas pressies i'm suppossed too and i think i can stretch to get me a DVD too. Question is i've got three rattling round my brain saying 'pick me, pick me' and it's driving me .

Rush Hour 2
Moulin Rouge
Almost Famous bootleg

I know these three have been pretty well recieved (as in DVD) by most on here. I just can't pick one. I've not seen any of them but i know i'll like them, coz i like most films.

I'll leave this running till Monday morning and go with the majority.

Thanks guys and gals.:)

I'm not gonna help you choose one, but I am gonna discard one for you. Although it was a good film, I'd forget about Rush Hour 2. It's just not in the same class as MR or AF. If you like your rock music, then I'd suggest AF. If you like your musicals, I'd choose MR. MR from EzyDVD is real cheap... Can't you afford both?:brickwall

I have all three and think they are all terrific film's in their own way. Also they are all very good packages on DVD.

If it's a lighthearted, non taxing time you want then Rush Hour 2 is the one for you. Almost Famous and Moulin Rouge are actually hard too seperate. Both are fine film's dealing with their subject matter brilliantly. Almost Famous is a most see if you are interested in 70's rock and culture. A fine DVD package with some good extras and a six track CD of Stillwater the fictitious band in the film. But the one I would personally go for is Moulin Rouge. A superb film in sound and visuals backed up by some great extras. Plus there's Nicole Kidman singing Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend in nothing but a corset, fishnets, a top hat and a smile;)

I've just ordered Rush Hour 2 - cos me wife wants it, so the decision was made for me :(

Anyway, if I'd been making the decision, I'd have gone for Almost Famous - I think its one of the best films of the last few years... I haven't seen Moulin Rouge, so I can't comment on it, but if you liked Rush Hour 1, or you're a fan of Jackie Chan, then go for that. If you're into seventies rock and roll, get Almost Famous - it's completely cool, and I loved it. If you're into nancy boy musicals, go for Moulin Rouge ;):D

Cor this is a sticky predicament. I fancy getting all of them but it sounds like pretty even stevens so far. I reckon i'm gonna have to decide by coin toss come Monday.

Use some bits of paper and a 'lucky slipper' to choose between AF and MR ;)

Both are SUPERB, get one now then make sure the other is the next DVD you get :)

I would go with Almost Famous, although I haven't seen Moulin Rouge yet. The 3 disk AF set is absolutely fantastic and you won't regret it.

If it's any help, Almost Famous bears up to rewatching far better than the others. Especially if you watch the theatrical version a couple of times, then watch the extended version.

Haven't seen Moulin Rouge, but if it was a my choice it would be Almost Famous. Its a fantastic film, and I would have the Bootleg version now if I could get rid of my normal disc :)

Almost Famous definitely. Rush Hour 2 ain't all that and Moulin Rouge is an acquired taste. I know of very few people who didn't liek Almost Famous.

Well, you can add me to the list of those who weren't particularly impressed with Almost Famous :)

Having been around during that era living in London in the mid 70's (doing the concert thing - Knebworth, Rainbow Theatre, Chalk Farm Roundhouse etc etc), I found it to be almost as dull as the period and the music it represents (at this point, dons flame-proof suit) - thank god for the latter half of the 70's when Joe Strummer and his 101ers, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Kilburn and the High Roads, Costello etc came along... however, I digress :)

IMHO, you should go for Moulin Rouge... it is a rollicking good time, has great re-workings of some very familiar songs, and if you can get over the fact that it looks a little like an extended music video, it is a great bit of escapist nonsense which I think does stand up to repeated viewings.

An added bonus is the fact that Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor (particularly McGregor who is an absolute revelation) can really sing.

regards, Tim...
