I hadn't known about this 'Bonjour' service until this morning. Microsoft's AntiSpyware had flagged up a windows say it had just allowed a connection using this service, but disappeared before I was able to read it fully.

Well, a quick Google and I found this http://www.voipuser.org/forum_topic_2567.html

Now I am not particularly technical at all and found a lot of this as double dutch to me. If you read through the thread, there appears to be a proper uninstall utility available. Use the 'Turn off Bonjour' exe here http://gizmoproject.com/jasmine/

After reading through all this I still don't really know if this is a bad thing or not  but certainly seemed to be installed like any other spyware [without permission or knowledge] and I have noticed a couple of times very recently I had seemingly no net connection through my wireless router even though from the face of it everything looked fine! :suspect:

BTW I have both Skype and iTunes 5 installed on my system.

Can anyone give a straight answer [ in layman's terms please :D ] Should I delete this service or not? And if I do, is there a tendency for it to buggar up my system? :help:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonjour_%28protocol%29

It get's installed with iTunes as it has appeared on my system since installing it. I would imagine it's reasonably safe. no idea how important it is to the operating of itunes (i would guess not at all so probably safe to disable the service)

edit: yup, safe to disable. It's just used by itunes to locate shared music over a network.

I too got this after installing iTunes.......think I deleted or or at least tried to as I though it was something dodgy.
