View Full Version : Where to go photograph something in the North West? Now with pics as promised.
Howdiddle, I live in Manchester (Bury), and am always getting the urge to go out and take some photos, yet lack inspiration of where to go.
I do like landscape photography, views, scenic things, and most definately sunsets and sunrises.
Wildlife is OK if I'm close enough to it, and there's good light :D
People I'm a bit :| with, especially if I'm out on my own.
So, I fancy going out tomorrow morning and 'doing some'. Anyone have any ideas?
I've done Healey Dell, Pennington Flash, Heaton Park, Hollingworth Lake. All not far from me (which is quite important), and free too (equally as important).
If it's a place I can take my wife and kids and they can have fun too, then it's a bonus.
I was thinking of Fountains Abbey, anyone else have any ideas?

there is Bolton Abbey near skipton (free) Tatton Park just below Manchester (family day out possibly( not sure how old kids are)) but you do have to pay for access to the house and gardens.
There is also the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (a place I would like to visit) the only charge is for parking @£3 per car

Not far from North Wales for the scenery.
I was up around Bala at the weekend hooning around and some of it's breathtaking. Albeit a bit misty

Was thinking of Bolton Abbey, although it's a fiver per car to park, hehe.
Seriously though, that's not a bad idea.
I may head off to North Wales if the weather is good.
Still thinking about Fountains Abbey, I've seen some beautiful shots of that place.
Also may set the alarm for 5am and try and catch me a sunrise from somewhere.
How about Salford Quays? With the Lowry centre and the War Museum there is some interesting architecture, plenty of water for reflections - it might make a good location for dawn or dusk shots.

I'm off for a wee while, thanks for the suggestions, I'll show some shots later (hopefully I'll have some to show).
Nice very clear sky with one or two wisps of cloud, hoping for a cracking 'rise.

Just one from this morning. Love the way the morning light hits it and gives it that glow.

Another attempt at that above image. I think this second one is better actually, but it'd be silly to pull the first one down :D
Very nice crop, you had a good morning's light.
Now, what to do with my winnings???
Ahh but I didn't oversleep, I just changed the planned time for getting up :p Which was 6. And stuck to it :D
