Im at the point where im thinking of buying a DSLR (when i probably shouldnt buy one) but there are so many new models and falling prices i want to get the best deal.
I have my eyes on :-
Canon 300D kit (Probably get for around £300)
Nikon D70 (is it so much better than the 300D?) - £500ish
Canon 350D - better features and not too much more than the D70...
Advice?

Canon

Canon
You will get lots of advice from more experienced photographers than me but your question has made me:
DUCK AND RUN FOR COVER
Hey, they're all good cameras (despite the friendly Nikon/Canon rivalry), though the 300D is going to be more within your price range.
Don't forget, with a DLSR the camera body itself is only a part of the cost. You'll need to work out what areas of photography you want to invest in and then you'll find where the real money is spent: lenses.
There was a thread like this a while ago here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=378052).

This is a very valid point, had my DSLR for a couple of months and I am already onto my 4th lens purchase
Ouch! What you "invested" in then? :D

My money's on one of these (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-9479574?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.co.uk/600-2000mm-Super-Telephoto-Zoom-Lens-for-Nikon-Mount_W0QQitemZ7545246095QQcategoryZ3343QQssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Also
Nikon D50 - pretty much the same capability as the D70(s) but with fewer buttons ( you need to use the menus more ) and there's no stop down button. The kit lens is nowhere near as good as the D70(s)'s kit lens. More akin to the Canon kit lens :D
Pentax *ist ( which is probably the cheapest DSLR out there ).
Is *ist pronounced starist? or something else?
BTW, what do you mean by 'better features' of the 350D? Resolution maybe? If so, don't get sucked into the marketing nonsense. In reality, the 2MPxl difference amounts to a hill of beans. The primary difference between the 2 is that the 350D images probably need less post processing than the D70(s)'s ( the D50 is more akin to the 350D in that respect ).
Quick search on DPReview.com (http://www.dpreview.com) came up with these:
"ist = (Intelligent Shooting Technology)"
"This is the new brand name of Pentax SLRs, combining the asterisk, which is one of the wild card characters in the computer language, and the English suffix -ist which means people who do or believe in certain things. The * can be replaced by various words, composing, for example, Artist, Liberalist, Idealist, Naturalist, Humanist, etc. The *ist was named in tribute to those who have their own ideals and live a proactive life."
So that also gives Leftist, Pessimist, and, erm Photographerist

Stolen from Nikonians and about the D70, but applicable to Canon just as well:
The 9 steps of DSLR ownership
1) You get the camera.
2) You take some shots and like the look of them.
3) You see other shots taken by other D70 owners and get depressed.
4) You learn how to use the camera (and how to post process) and start taking far better shots and come on here and won't be able to shut up about what a great camera it is.
5) NAS strikes. You must get a D2x.
6) Your wife leaves you after she finds out you have just spent $5000 on a camera.
7) With your wife out of the way you can now spend a few thousand dollars on decent lenses.
8) Your wife files for divorce and you suddenly realise you may need to sell the D2x and glass as part of the settlement.
9) You get depressed, lose your job and end up homeless.
I'm at about 3.2 at the moment. :D

Without wanting to hijack the thread:
I got a 70-300 APO almost straight away , I like it as a walkabout when you are restricted in what you can carry.
BUT, I tend to shoot a lot early morning and evening and mainly wildlife so wanted something faster so went for the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 and a 2 x Sigma convertor (still waiting for it to arrive OSD out of stock).
Also like Macro work so of course had to go for the Tamron 90mm macro.
And lastly waiting for a Nikon 50mm 1.4.
Got a few more on my shopping list like a fast wide angle and eventually a long prime (long way off till I can afford one of them though.
My money's on one of these (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-582776-9479574?loc=http%3A//cgi.ebay.co.uk/600-2000mm-Super-Telephoto-Zoom-Lens-for-Nikon-Mount_W0QQitemZ7545246095QQcategoryZ3343QQssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Thats done it gotta have me one of them babies :gag:
Once again sorry for the hijack :suspect:
