Apparently this is doing the rounds now - anyone had a chance to play it yet? :)

Where can this demo be had from?
Or shouldn't I ask...

No it's an official demo I think mate: I got mine from here...quite slow though.
Just about to install it :D

Hehehehe early impressions are good here :D
Looks identical to PES4 in many ways, and doesn't play exactly like Winning 11 9 either - kind of in-between them both, if you catch my drift?
Seems a touch slower than the PS2 version, and those long shots don't seem to zip about quite as much. Tougher to score than PES4, which can only be a good thing...I haven't managed a cut-back yet
If Konami nail the online mode, it's gonna be huge!

I just need a better graphics card now, runs on on my x300.
But could definately do with something with a bit more of a kick to it, no pun intended!
Oh yes, will be having a gander at this later for sure - what teams can you pick from?
LouBarlow
15-09-2005, 12:27
Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Valencia.
Kits look great, and players faces are improved - Drogba is spot-on.
Oh cool! A chance to see whether it will work on my machine or not!
Just in the queue for a download now.
What is the expander? Do I need that too?

Usually an expander either lets you choose any team or lets you play the game with varying time lengths instead of the fixed selection.
Cheers John!
Not getting great download speeds here. Currently between 60 and 75 Kbs (edit now up to 85)
When I downloaded the Paris Hilton vid earlier today (for a friend) I got 132Kps.
Was your 'friend' impressed with the video? :D
No, I ..........I mean he.......found he couldn't really see anything with that damned night vision. :(

You need to be a bit careful doing that. The demo for PES4 was a lot less demanding on my GFX card than the final release version. I could run the demo at 800x600 Medium no problem, but the final release would only run OK in low-res on the 9200 I had at the time
It should give you a general idea, though
LouBarlow
15-09-2005, 14:36
Can't see why it should be any more intensive than 4 - plays a lot better though imho :D
Can't wait for this.
Can see a divided camp with this one tbh. Those that play an open game will love it, those that only play for the tried and tested cutbacks, crosses will probably hate it :p
It certainly feels different to PES4 when controlling players (for example the auto side step) so things like that will take a bit of getting used to, but I'm liking it so far.

Seriously though, it plays a much better game of football I think - the two major problems with 4 were the ease of cut-back goals and scores from crosses - these aspects have been tightened up considerably, but at least now you will know you've been beaten by a better player, and not someone who has 'found out' the game and relies on it to win...that was the most annoying aspect of 4 I think.
Just played a couple of games.
Has any one else noticed there is a Network option, but no online option?
Seems very very different to 4, with a very different style of playing. I actually think this might suit me a lot more. You seem to get more time on the ball, with the computer playing a more intelligent type of game.
Scoring looks impossible though, I didn't get a sniff on goal in either match, but then again neither did the computer.
Whereas 4 often seems to be a case of each side having shots, and which striker is on form, this one is going to be very different IMHO.

This sounds good. Annoys the hell out of me playing people who either just run to the sideline each game and just cross it with a couple of tall players or cut it back. I like to be beaten by a better player like Lou says rather than someone who uses flaws in a game to score every time - thats why I stopped playing fifa for gawd sake
Anyhoo, I'm gonna stop talking about some damn PC game and get back to the swimming pool beside me here. Laters guys :D
LouBarlow
15-09-2005, 16:04
I love the way players can get injured by fair tackles too - just happened to Gilberto and he lies writhing in agony, till the ref stops the game and then restarts with a drop-ball
Class
It's annoying me that you can only play one half.
I've now played six games, and not had a single shot on goal from the PC. I've had probably one chance per game, and not scored at all. :(
EDIT
Now in a queue of 21 people on the quietest server to download the expander. Anyone else got this and what does it do?
EDIT
Answers own question.
It allows you to play for longer.
Got the expander but doesn't seem to work. Now getting goals, and loving this game!

so its you slowing it down is it ????
135k a sec here - and that is slow for me :D
Thanks lou, that works. You use it on the options screen, where you can change the difficulty level.
Anyone who wants to try it beware, though. It makes the game last about a fortnight!
Impressions:
- nicely familiar - fits like a glove :D
- Ball sound is kind of weedy. Not the "thump" I am use to.
- Nice clean interface.
- Play will favour the passer and the patient player. Can see quite a few 0-0 draws in the league coming up.
- Nice crowd close up when scoring.
- Graphics not noticabely improved - but we have been spoilt by Wolfy.
Thumbs up so far for me. Shame the demo isn't online otherwise we could have had a mini tournament. ;)

damn my crappy 1mb connection............
Loving it so far - first game 0-0 and then game 2 felt more at home. A lovely 2-0 win against Real with Valencia. Aimar and Kluivert were just devastating up front :D
LouBarlow
15-09-2005, 20:24
I found Valencia the toughest club out of the all of them - clubbered them eventually though natch :D
Another plus for me, is that better players are now evidenced by their skills rather than how hard it is to knock them off the ball, as seems to be the case in PES4 - Henry et al, are practically impossible to knock off the ball...unless you are Stam or someone
I want that 7 star level though to play with - finding 5 star to be no match TBH :D
Art Vanderlay
15-09-2005, 22:44
As good as expected, really
- headers much more satisfying
- long shots more impressive
- marking AI seems improved
- a bit quicker than PES4 (or is that just because I never normally play vs CPU)
- tackling/battling for the ball is much more satisfying, and the ref is not as bad as I feared
I have had a couple of hangs when showing cut scenes for bookings etc, but otherwise seems to run as smoothly as PES4 on my PC
Let's hope we are still playing it this time next year when we are debating PES6 :D

Just recently had a bash at this myself.
First impressions is that the play is more physical and that the physics of the ball are more realistic. Controlled passing is more key than in any of the previous pes series. The CPU does limit your general space and closes you down more and its up to you to create space with a range of passing. No pass, pass, pass shooting no more.
The play does seem a bit slow that I'm used to but hopefully you can speed it up when the final version is released.
Nice touches so far:
- Collisions in midfield with your own team mates.
- Ref's can get in the way of the ball.
- Ricochets between the ball in midfield.
- Ref's can dish out yellow cards when the ball has gone out of play for fouls earlier on in the game.
- Different height of headering in midfield.
- Ref points his arm in the direction for the throwing.
Not sure what the online bit will be like as playing against the CPU and an online opponent are totally different.
If you want to play a 25 minute half instead of the defualt 5 min and change more options than use this program below:

Definately seems to have headed in the right direction. The way players position themselves seems more realistic and the ball movement seems more natural and more fluid.
The crux of whether its any better tho will be Online play IMO however...

that demo trainer file - is there anywhere else i can download it from as the file appears to have expired at that sendit place.
and do i actually need it, or is it the same as the extender?
It's the same as the extender. It allows you to alter game time etc etc.
If you need it contact me on MSN and I'll send it to you. It's a small file!
Quick question guys.
Got another mate interested in joining but his machines a bit lacking at the mo.
It's a P4 2.2 with 256ram and I don't know what his graphics card is. I'm going to bump up his ram to 512 but can anyone recommend a reasonable graphics card that should run PES5? Not looking at spending more that £60 if we can help it. In the long run if he likes it he'll probably buy a new machine but for the moment just want to get him up and running and playing a few games.
Cheers

I use a Radeon 9500 64MB, which runs it OK in medium res at 1024x768 in the Demo
I got it from Scan for around £30, although they don't seem to stock them any more. Might be able to pick up a second hand one cheap, maybe if he wants to do it dirt cheap.
There are also some refurbed GFX cards that you can get from Retek - http://www.retekdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Video_Cards.html. The 9700 Pro for £44 would run it OK, I reckon
As to the offsides, my biggest worry with those is the 'realistic' waiting for the player to touch the ball before the flag goes up. Sometimes it is OK, but it is really annoying when your player is miles offside, and you have to chug after the ball and touch it before the whistle finally goes and play can recommence.

Can someone confirm this for me once and for all: how do you do a two-player game in the demo?
This option seems to be blacked out for me.
Anyone had joypad issues with the demo?
I cannot confiugre the thing properley - the settings program reports my pad as Logitech Dual Action when it is a PS2/USB pad??
When I make it as far as the game my players automatically run one way etc.. - similar to the King Kong demo issue.
Is there anyway I can stop my PC thinking I have a Logitech pad as it looks as though that could be the root of the problem
Thanks
Carl

Did you ever mess about with the Registry to get your PS2 pad working in EA Games? As some of them require you to fool Windows that it is a Logitech Pad to get it working properly.

Can't help you soz Carl, but please tell me you're coming back to the league for part 5?
On the subject of mother loving PS2/USB converters, I 'chased this (http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10412&mid=326739) one from Game a few days a go and not once has it not responded to my button mashing, which can't be said for the one from play.com.
Might be worth a purchase if you're having the same problems I was.
john - I did indeed - MVP Baseball 04.
No idea how I did it. Please dont say its cocked up forever!
Lou - I would love to but still not too sure if I can give 100% committment. Any idea when it would be starting.
Does sound tempting again though....
john - any more advice on what to do in my situation - i.e. how to unreg my "Logitech" and turn into a PS2 pad?
Cant seem to find anything.

Find the one labelled Logitech Dual Action and rename it to Dual PSX-USB Adaptor and then reboot to see if its successful. If not, there may be 1-2 other things you can try.
Excellent stuff John, just checked Control Panel and it has changed.
Seem to have two pads installed but at least its no longer Logitech.
Hope in the two years that I have not played EA Sports titles they have sorted that issue out.

The second pc demo I have is exactly the same as the first in terms of teams. It just has slightly tightened gameplay and a commentary that sounds like it's coming through a tranny.

Another question about setting up the ps2 pad. I hope this is a quick and easy one to answer.
Not sure if I've set my pad up correctly. I went into the config and assigned the buttons.
But only certain directions work on the menu's and sometimes my plays in a game will just do a random spin move?!?
Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm using the usb adaptor from play.
Press the Analog button on the Pad so that the light is lit up

They have fixed it so that PS2 pads work without that reg change
BUT, you have to either disable one of them in Device Manager or plug a pad into the both ports on the converter otherwise you get menu issues in most EA Sports games.

Two things im finding really hard are when the goalie kicks it out or a long pass by the other team there attacker always gets ahead of my defender and sheilds me fromthe ball but when its the other way round he just gets past me........
Also my passing as gone to **** every time it pass its not far/fast enough and not as accurate as pro evo 4 .
I guess its more manual then pro evo 4 passing .
Also im using long pass more and its more effective then before.....
I hit a cracker outside the box by A. Cole it was :D
also ntl are coming on friday the 28th :D if my copy of pes5 turns up to it should be an intresting weekend :D
