got an option on the 859 for £400 or the 909 for £500 - anybody got any experience with either of these amps as to whether or not this is good value
heard the 859 and it sounds good - listening to the 909 tomorrow
cheers
I had a 859 - pioneer recalled them all in Feb 01 as they had mains problems...and they swapped it for a 909...free!
So on both accounts I have had both !
I love the Amp, it goes up loud, has THX EX on both (extra power amp needed to run it) and never had a problame with in.
The 859 is a newer piece of technology and differences in clude a slightly bigger display and the ability to rename the sockets on the Lcd..the 909 cant to this. The 859 has a EX light but the 909 does not..
The 909 is a full THX Ultra machine the 859 is a cut down THX select..I dought you will be able to tell the difference...
Run mine with a Pioneer DVD player, Pioneers MX10 Power amp for the EX stuff and start ward, Toy story, Bone collector all sound great in EX or DTS up loud..
Run Tonnoy MX3s as the front - no problems there either (want THX speakers but no money at the moment..)
Neither have DLPII, DTs NEO etc, do have DD, DTS, THX, THX EX, DTS ES, DD, DS, DPL
Faults - problame not the best music amp ever but It still sounds good. My main fault is that it does not have DLPII which i really want. ;(
I got the 859 for £600 in Feb which was a £200 reduction. The 909 at the same time was £900 i think..(but as i say Pioneer Swaped the 859 for it..!)
I would say bargain at those prices..
If you have any more questions, just ask..
What would I buy now...the 909 just to say I have THX ultra..but use could buy the 859 and with the difference a DVD player...and still say i have THX
