A few months ago I bought an el-cheapo Wireless Broadband Router from Ebuyer so I could access my blueyonder internet wirelessly on my laptop, whilst also plugging my main pc (via wires) into the router.

It's a Safecom SWBR-5400 and although cheap it worked fine.

Now though something odd had started to happen.

My Telewest cable modem and Safecom Wireless Router are on the same plug socket so they get powered up together (I don't leave them on when I'm not using my PC)

Whats just started to happen is this:

When my PC starts up I can't access the Internet.
At 1st I was blaming Blueyonder, or my Blueyonder box, but what I've found is, my Router is not finding any of the info from the Cable modem

As I say, I fire up the PC (no net access) I then go onto my routers front page and get this:

http://www.tempest.eurobell.co.uk/router.gif

As you can see everying is zero's

The odd thing is, if I press that "Renew" Button on the right hand side, it finds everything (all those zero's fill up with IP Addreses etc) and my pc can then access the net.

This now happens every time and has been the same for about the past 3 days.

Do I assume the Router is screwed up?
I have pushed the reset button on the back of the router but made no difference. As far as I'm aware the router is all back at factory defaults.

Anyone?

Odd?

Well, in a last ditch attempt, I found firmware for this model (the same as I already have actually) and re-flashed it.
Then went into the Routers Web Menus and clicked on set all to factory defaults, then rebooted.

Guess what... No difference.

If its all working perfect, then I pull the power from the router and plug the power back in, then it cant find anything till I manually hit that RENEW button in the picture above!

All sorted now.
Within the settings was a tick box for "Renew IP Forever"
This was unticked.
Ticking and saving the settings has solved my problem (phew)

Odd as I'm sure this was ticked when I bought the unit, which is why I did not understand why factory defaults did not fix it.

But anyway, all sorted :)
